IIn a few days, a catch and battle tournament with Pokémon GO will take place on the Twitch platform. We at MeinMMO have looked into what kind of event it is, how it works, and whether you can participate yourself.
What kind of event is this? As Niantic announced on October 7, 2021, via their Twitter account, Pokémon GO will be part of Twitch Rivals: Mobile Showdown. It is a catch and battle tournament held among online streamers and professional players.
The Twitch Rivals Event with Pokémon GO
When does it take place? The Twitch Rivals event with Pokémon GO takes place on Saturday, October 14, 2021, at 00:00 local time.
Who can participate? Generally, only streamers and professional players can participate in events at Twitch Rivals. The popularity of the streaming account is usually irrelevant, and you can also participate in such events with a small account.
However, for Pokémon GO, the selection of participants is limited, which is why it consists of 18 high-profile content creators. So if you are not one of those 18 individuals, unfortunately, you cannot participate yourself. However, you have the opportunity to watch the event live on the official Twitch page.
This is how the catch and battle tournament works
According to Niantic, on October 14, a total of 18 content creators will compete against each other at Twitch Rivals (via pokemongolive.com). This happens on the basis of a catch and battle event and thus in two stages.
For this, the trainers will first receive new game accounts with special game settings. Then they will come together in teams and must prove their skills.
The Catch Phase: Teams will first have one hour to catch as many Pokémon as possible. Afterwards, they must assemble a team of 6 monsters from them, which they will need for the second phase of the tournament.
Together as a team, they now have the opportunity to think about a battle strategy. However, they are not allowed to trade Pokémon.
The Battle Phase: After the catch phase ends, the individual teams must compete against each other. Each team will face every other in a round-robin format. At the end, there will be a corresponding prize for the winner.
Niantic also promises a new level of depth and strategy, which will be achieved through the implementation of special rules.
What the Community Says
In social networks like Twitter and reddit, there are some positive messages about the Twitch Rivals event. Many trainers are particularly interested in which high-profile streamers will be participating. For instance, Heegaard asks on reddit: “Can you see somewhere who the ‘high-profile streamers’ are?” (via reddit.com).
The community on Twitter already has clear wishes about who should participate in this event (via twitter.com):
- SvenParadox: “High-profile Twitch streamers are better than the actual PvP streamers. If yes, I’m damn excited to see this. If it’s just the usual YouTubers, then I’ll pass.”
- Justin: “Is it a combination of both? 6 pros and 12 content creators”
- MM: “If HomeSliceHenry is not there, then it’s not interesting to me.”
Rule Adjustments: Other trainers, however, are thinking about the implementation of the game in this context. The rule adjustments, especially regarding the new accounts, are a major topic.
As Pokémon Chief writes surprised: “Pokémon GO officially supports multi-accounting” (via twitter.com). A similar statement can also be found on reddit, as stated by user TheRealHankWolfman: “Wait, so is multi-accounting now officially tolerated by Niantic?” (via reddit.com).
This refers to the new game accounts that participants are supposed to create in the context of the game.
PvP League: However, there have also been some reports that this event is uninteresting. One of them is from Lok Lat: “PvP stuff doesn’t matter to me. No exciting new features for months. The game is slowly dying. I’m bored.” (via twitter.com).
These posts are picked up by trainer GymLeaderMatt87, who writes on reddit that such events are good for Pokémon GO, and he wishes for more openness from other trainers (via reddit.com).
What do you think of the upcoming Rivals event with Pokémon GO on Twitch? Will you watch it, or is it not your thing? Feel free to share your opinion with us here on MeinMMO in the comments and discuss it with other trainers.
