The Twitchcon 2019 seems to be a lot of fun for many gaming streamers. Twitch streamers like xQc, Tyler1, DrDisrespect, and TSM Myth show up, pose for fans, and celebrate each other. However, the former number 1 on Twitch, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, is at home and expresses criticism of Twitch’s CEO regarding the call for more transparency.
What is Twitchcon? Twitchcon is Twitch’s trade fair. In 2019, it takes place in California.
There was a keynote in which Twitch introduced some changes: They now want to make their ads less intrusive, allowing them to run “in a window.” The goal seems to be that streamers run more ads, but these ads shouldn’t scare away viewers.
For most Twitch streamers, TwitchCon is a “meet and greet”; normally, most of them either hang out alone at home or in “gaming houses” with other streamers.
At TwitchCon, some streamers meet for the first time and have direct contact with their fans: As at many public fairs, the industry essentially celebrates itself.
Streamers pose for selfies, celebrate each other
What are special encounters? In one scene, the LoL streamer, Tyler “Tyler1” Steinkampf, a muscle package, meets the variety streamer Felix “xQc” Lengyel, a hothead.
The two seem to get along well right away. Tyler1 puts on his show and seems like he could tear someone’s head off at any moment. The slight xQc provokes him a bit.
xQc mocks Tyler1’s played outbursts of anger – Tyler1 prepares for his streams by training how to get angry and freak out. Is that hard work?
Tyler1 explains: His job as a streamer is really hard work. xQc just watches others and reacts to clips – that’s of course easy.
xQc is on the move as a raging reporter at TwitchCon. He also meets the Fortnite star, Ali “Myth” Kabbani, who poses for fans behind the TSM booth.
Myth had always stood out in advance because he imitated xQc’s speaking style. He often gets caught up in things.
So Myth now virtually greets xQc as xQc.
Guy “DrDisrespect” Beahm is also using TwitchCon for some image polishing. He gives autographs and takes photos.
He appears fairly satisfied and balanced with himself and the world.
He gladly accepts the compliments that he is the most original streamer.
Ninja criticizes Twitch’s stance on throwing cats
What is Ninja doing? The actual number 1 on Twitch, Fortnite star Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, switched to competitor Mixer on August 1 and is therefore no longer at TwitchCon. He expresses his criticism from home in a video regarding the statements from Twitch CEO Emmett Shear. He had stated that Twitch wants to be more transparent.
Ninja addresses the incident with the streamer, Alinity Divine, who threw a cat. This caused a huge uproar at the time, and the animal rights organization PETA demanded a ban. However, this ban did not occur.
As Ninja sees it, the talk about transparency is irrelevant when such things go unpunished. That was Twitch’s mistake. Ninja seems to see no wiggle room here.
The streamer has recently spoken positively about his new home at Mixer. With the deal with Microsoft, he can play games like Gears 5 before anyone else. That’s a big advantage.
