The Twitch streamer Tyler “Trainwreck” Nicknam won 13.95 million USD live on air at an online casino on Friday, March 11, and cheered with joy. But after 20 minutes, he became quite sober: despite the massive win, he lost a lot of money gambling. He warned his viewers not to ruin their lives trying to emulate him.
How did he win so much money?
- Trainwreck is known for playing high stakes at online casinos. For hours, he pulls the virtual lever of one-armed bandits and bets thousands of dollars. With a penchant for gambling, he has tarnished his reputation with some publishers: EA excluded him from a tournament in Apex Legends.
- The win of over 12.7 million euros came with a bet of $1,500 per spin. At the virtual slot machine “Wanted: Dead or a Wild” by Hacksaw Gaming, a special mode was triggered by a combination that multiplied the bet by several random factors.
- The game he plays boasts a maximum win multiplier of 12,500 – Trainwreck hit one of 9,300.
20 minutes after the cheer comes the warning
This is his reaction: Trainwreck breaks into cheers at the massive sum. He says he never expected it to happen “like this.” Because he was “only” on air for 3 hours on Twitch, which is little for his standards. He seems to have fallen prey to the superstition that such mega wins only occur after much longer periods.
He watches the replay of the win, marvels at a statistic, and plays another round. However, when he stands before the special mode again, he hesitates and says he feels uneasy about winning even more now. He decides to take a break to collect himself before entering the bonus round: there he then won another 1.3 million USD.
After the second win, however, it was time to admonish the viewers. Trainwreck played a clip in which he urges players not to gamble. The clip says:
“Don’t gamble. Don’t start. You won’t get anywhere. You won’t win. You’ll only incur debt and ruin your life.” That was about 20 minutes after he won the huge sum.

What’s behind it: Trainwreck repeatedly warns his viewers not to follow him. He says that if he gambles, he does it because he is “addicted” and has “streamer money.” He also emphasizes, that he apparently has a lot of money through investments in cryptocurrency.
Still, Trainwreck continuously complains about the huge sums he has lost over the course of his endless streams.
These Twitch clips showing him winning huge sums are therefore so dangerous:
- Viewers only see the clip of the huge wins
- The many hours in which he gambles millions of USD in “$1,500” bites are not seen – but this is exactly the money Trainwreck feels on his account
- Therefore, he warns the viewers, 20 minutes after his victory, emphatically not to follow him. He also repeatedly states: despite the huge wins, he himself is deeply in the red
Here in Germany, gambling on Twitch has significantly decreased after a change in legislation. However, streamers naturally say, “they have reconsidered.”
From MontanaBlack, it is known, for example: if he were to leave Germany, he would start gambling online again from a country with a “friendlier regulation.”
