The Fortnite streamer NickEh30 caused a lot of attention during a charity tournament. He actually planned a cheating scheme and is now criticized by many fans.
This is the tournament in question: Shortly before the Super Bowl in football, several NFL professionals met with Fortnite pros and played together for a good cause. In total, there was $500,000 that was subsequently donated. This is not Fortnite’s first charity event.
However, a major controversy of the tournament was the actions of streamer NickEH30. He openly planned a cheat and said it was fine since there would only be a warning for it.
Twitch streamer thinks cheating is okay – viewers are angry
These were the rules: In the tournament, there were special rules. The teams were to land in a certain area and loot there. They were not supposed to leave that area for looting, as that would break the rules.
This is the clip: In the video, you can see two moderators who are showing a landing area. In the small window next to it, you can see NickEH30 with his teammate David Morgan, a football player from the Minnesota Vikings.
In the video, you can hear the two talking to each other. You can hear Nick say: “What if we stretch a little more? There are no real POIs nearby, that’s the only problem. Keep in mind that we only get a warning. We don’t get a [not audible]. This is not a bad thing.”
Nick proposes to his colleague that they leave their zone and loot in another area. There are not so many options in their area.
It’s also claimed that: Numerous viewers assert that Nick landed outside his zone during the tournament to eliminate other players. He allegedly sneaked up from behind and took them out. The opponents probably did not expect it, as they felt safe in their own zone.
Why this is particularly controversial: Nick is known as a very family-friendly streamer who doesn’t use foul language. His content is aimed at many young viewers, and he is described as very friendly by numerous colleagues. He has been invited to such events by Fortnite multiple times.
It is even more controversial that he would actually take such measures and try to cheat in a charity tournament.
How do the viewers react to this? After the stream, the clip appears on reddit and causes a lot of discussion. Many viewers are angry that Nick actually made the suggestion to cheat.
MoxZenyte says on reddit: “Cheating in a charity tournament feels very strange.”
melito29 says: “Pathetic, because according to other comments he apparently also took advantage of landing outside the zone to sneak up and kill the opponent. Disgusting. A damn charity event. How wrong can one be?”
However, there are also some understanding comments. Some people say that this is not cheating. After all, in other sports, fouls are also committed, and you only get a warning for that. This is also completely fine, and Nick accepted this warning in the Fortnite tournament.
How did the tournament end? In the end, Nick and his colleague David Morgan finished in 6th place. By the way, he donated the money to St. Jude’s Hospital, which has already received a big donation from Dr. Lupo.
Streamer Clix and NFL star Tarik Cohen ultimately won the tournament.
Professionals in Fortnite should now rejoice. Epic is taking a step towards real eSports:
