The Pre-Patch 9.0 of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is finally live and offers several new contents. Among them is a tribute to a deceased legend: Reckful. The largest WoW streamer on Twitch, Asmongold, paid him a visit in his first stream of the new patch.
Who was the legend? Byron “Reckful” Bernstein was one of the most well-known personalities in World of Warcraft. He won numerous tournaments and reached the highest PvP rank in 6 consecutive seasons.
He was regarded as one of the best rogues in the world and served as a great inspiration for many streamers because he was one of the first to make a name for himself on the streaming platform. Twitch itself called him a “streaming pioneer”.
In June 2020, Reckful took his own life. The news of his death spread quickly and thousands of players mourned him.
“It’s somehow sad, man”
Here stands Reckful now: In the today, on October 14th, the applied Pre-Patch 9.0 has given Reckful a tribute from Blizzard his own NPC. He stands with the same name and the character model of his rogue in the cathedral in Stormwind.
Players can visit him. Reckful serves in WoW Shadowlands both as a reminder of a deceased legend and as a trainer for rogues. Those who wave at him will receive a wave back and those who input the emote /love will receive a quick kiss from the character, and wings will appear on his back.
This is what Asmongold says: Since the patch was already available several hours earlier in North America, streamers like the largest WoW streamer Asmongold could play it before us. One of the first things he did was visit the deceased legend directly in his stream.
After briefly wondering about the repositioning (in the beta Reckful stood on the other side), he and some of his viewers greeted the NPC. Asmongold praised the tribute to Reckful and the Easter eggs like the wings with a: “This is really fucking cool”.
Subsequently, the streamer even showed himself to be quite emotional by his standards. The usually brash Asmongold was visibly affected: “It’s somehow sad. I don’t know, I’m trying not to think too much about it. But it really is somehow sad.”
Reckful’s death has already caused known streamers to have emotional outbursts. The streamer Alinity, for example, cried and lamented the hate culture on Twitch. Reckful was reportedly targeted on social media and in forums before his death, which also happens to her.
