On November 12, the TV total Wok World Championship took place. This year, there were two four-person woks participating, featuring well-known streamers and YouTubers from Germany. However, neither team managed to secure a podium finish. Trymacs also suffered a knee injury.
How did the WOK-WM go for the streamers? Two teams of streamers and YouTubers participated in the Wok WM:
- World Wide Wok Team 1 consisted of: Knossi, Trymacs, MontanaBlack, and Unsympatisch TV.
- World Wide Wok Team 2 consisted of: Papaplatte, Rewi, Laserluca, and wildcard winner Johannes
In the qualifying round, both teams made a decent impression. The team led by Trymacs and Knossi finished in 4th place, partly due to their high weight. Knossi even expressed a desire to improve on that, as he mentioned in a talk.
Although the qualifying round was promising, the final race did not go well for either team.
Trymacs injures himself, drops out in the second run
How did Team 1 perform? In their first race, Team Knossi and Trymacs almost faced a fall. To avoid this fall at nearly 100 km/h, they had to place their body parts on the ice track, which slowed them down and cost them a lot of time.
They barely managed to secure 8th place out of 10, which at least qualified them for the finals. The last two teams were eliminated in the preliminary round.
Additionally, Trymacs was reportedly already struggling with an injury from the rehearsal before the first run, as Knossi shared in an interview. After the fall, it was said that Trymacs had bruised his knee and could not participate in the second run. The streamer announced this via Instagram. Instead, a stuntman took his place.
However, the second run was also not successful. This time, the fall was unavoidable, and Knossi spent part of the ride completely outside the wok. In the end, they lacked the time to compete for a higher position, and they remained in 8th place.
Here you can watch the second run of both internet teams:
How did Team 2 perform? The team led by Papaplatte and Rewi only managed to secure 7th place in the first round, just one position ahead of Knossi and the team. In the finals, they also managed to drive a bit faster than their Twitch competitors.
In the end, however, they also finished in 7th place.
Who won the Wok WM in the four-person category? The team Deutschland 3, consisting of former luge athlete Johannes Ludwig, actor Felix von Jascheroff, Olympic bobsledder Francesco Friedrich, and former cross-country skier Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle, took 1st place.
Team Deutschland 2 took 2nd place and Team Deutschland 1 finished in 3rd place. The favorites, Team USA, only came in 4th. Team Burger King from Turkey finished 5th, and the Irish team led by Joey Kelly took 6th place.
What is the Wok WM anyway? The Wok WM was established in 2003 by Stefan Raab after he offered it as a wager on Wetten dass..?? Participants race down a bobsleigh track in a steel wok.
The event took place every year from 2003 to 2015. After Stefan Raab withdrew from active television, the event was suspended. It took place again in 2022 for the first time.
Did you watch the Wok WM? Or did the event pass you by? Do you think it’s good that YouTubers and streamers participate in such events, and can that motivate you to turn on the TV? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
Currently, it is a trend that larger Twitch streamers and YouTubers host real-life sports events. In addition to boxing matches, there was a football event featuring Trymacs and Knossi:
