As one of the largest streamers on Twitch, Hamburg’s Maximilian “Trymacs” Stemmler (28) usually spends several hours a day at the computer. This is not always comfortable for the eyes, especially when, like him, you use the White Mode. However, the streamer does not want to be addressed about it.
What screen setting is it about? Trymacs was just watching the Streamer Awards of his Twitch colleague Reved and shared his screen with the viewers. When they mentioned that he was watching Twitch in the so-called White Mode, the streamer unleashed a tirade.
In Dark Mode, light text is displayed on a dark background. This is supposed to be gentler on the eyes, especially in poor lighting conditions, and reduce power consumption on OLED screens.
The dispute between users of both modes has developed into a fairly widespread meme: Dark Mode users mock the glaring bright screens of others. They accuse night mode advocates of exaggerating and thinking of themselves as something better.
The “Light Mode” is often disparaged as a mode for “Boomers”, i.e. rather old people.
Trymacs reveals how he stays awake during marathon streams
Why is this such a topic for Trymacs? The streamer justifies his reaction by stating that he has explained several times over the years that and why he uses the Light Mode. It’s not just a simple preference.
Trymacs has “exaggerated White Mode”: on all 4 screens and additional lights that would blind him quite a bit when looking directly – “everything is brutally bright here!”
What’s it all for? Trymacs explains that he only does it for the sake of his viewers. Have they ever seen him tired in his almost daily streams, regardless of the time? No! That wouldn’t happen, because:
Because it’s as freaking bright here as the sun. I go crazy, I’m doing this for you in White Mode!
To substantiate his point, Trymacs shows a clip of his friend Chefstrobel, who is also active on Twitch and YouTube. However, in the recording, he looks quite sleepy – that’s what Dark Mode looks like.
The streamer warns extensively about the dangers of night mode: They would all be sleeping, yawning, sluggish, and saying nothing for 10 minutes.
Also, the supposed feeling of superiority of Dark Mode users seems to annoy Trymacs quite a bit. We have embedded the clip here:
Maybe after this outburst, Trymacs will have a while of peace from his viewers’ questions. However, it is more likely that he will have to endure the mockery about his White Mode for a while longer.
How is it with you? Do you prefer visiting MeinMMO in Dark Mode or do you follow Trymacs’ lead and let your screen shine? Have you had discussions about the different settings? Feel free to leave us a comment with your preferred mode.
