The Twitch streamer Silvervale told in a stream that she received death threats and was insulted because she showed Hogwarts Legacy, the new game in the “Harry Potter” universe, in the stream and users assumed she had banned the word “Trans” in her chat. Now Silvervale speaks out again a few days later.
What triggered the commotion?
- The Twitch streamer Silvervale played the controversial game Hogwarts Legacy in some streams, which led to a conflict around her.
- Silvervale was attacked on Twitter and called a TERF (trans-exclusionary radical feminist).
- The conflict escalated when users got the impression that the streamer Silvervale had banned the word “Trans” in her Twitch chat.
- Silvervale then explained that the word “Trans” was not intentionally put on a blacklist, but Auto-Mod had marked it at Twitch as “must be reviewed.”.
- On February 17, Silvervale reacted in a stream to the overwhelming hate against her. She says she received death threats, was insulted and doxxed (via Twitch).
Her statements have been viewed as transphobic for years, which the author herself denies. Although J.K. Rowling is not involved in the development of the game, she profits to an unknown extent from the brand rights and the strengthening of the franchise. A boycott call for Hogwarts Legacy followed.

How does the streamer express herself now? In a new stream, Silvervale explained that she will continue to play Hogwarts Legacy in her streams. She wants to play a witch in the universe that made her childhood worth living, even if it doesn’t align with the author’s ideals.
Additionally, the streamer adds that she does not want to be bullied.
I do not agree with the author’s ideals, I just want to be a damn witch. I want to play my wizard game that made my childhood worth living. And I will be a damn witch, and we will enjoy this damn game.
I will not let myself be bullied by a bunch of Twitter freaks who know nothing better to do with their goddamn lives. If you want to change something, then do it instead of bullying streamers on the internet.
A clip with Silvervale’s statements was shared on Twitter. We embed the post here:
What reactions are there to her statements? Under the clip posted on Twitter, some users respond to her statements.
One user writes, for example, that not every disagreement is bullying and some people actually know “nothing better” to do with their lives because transphobia and anti-Semitism threaten those lives.
Other users find it good that Silvervale does not let the hostility influence her decision to play the game.
Whether streamers should play Hogwarts Legacy, let alone show it, has already been a much-discussed topic for months. Gronkh was also part of a debate in February 2023 because a clip from his stream circulated in which he asked if he was a bad person for not caring about J.K. Rowling.
