Jasmin alias “Gnu” is one of the best-known gaming influencers on German Twitch and YouTube. She also uses her platform to talk about critical issues like sexism in the gaming industry or beauty obsession. However, when it comes to dating, her fame seems to lead to unforeseen problems.
What kind of problems are they? On X, formerly Twitter, Jasmin Gnu reports a very specific problem with dating apps: “Great, you dive into dating life and get banned on all platforms right away.” Apparently, the streamer had been reported as a “fake” multiple times.
Gnu writes that there will probably only be “Raya” left, an exclusive social network where celebrities are also said to hang out.
But it seems the streamer is open to other options as well: She recently participated in the blind date format of YouTuber Sophodoph. In her corresponding reaction, she explained that she had always met her previous partners in everyday life (via YouTube).
Supermarket instead of Tinder?
Why is this so quirky? Normally, people in the public eye struggle with the opposite problem: Users creating profiles with their images on social networks or indeed dating apps.
The Twitch streamer AnniTheDuck shared a post in November 2022, shortly after the end of her relationship, with such a fake profile. Not only was the name, the picture, and even the interests of the streamer used: The person even wrote in the description that they had just gone through a breakup and were not looking for a relationship.
AnniTheDuck called this treatment of her breakup “a new level of disgusting” at the time (via X). Therefore, it is not surprising that dating apps are taking action against alleged fakes. However, it is unclear why the platforms didn’t simply give Gnu the opportunity to verify her identity.
What were the reactions? Gnu’s post gathered nearly 300 comments full of more or less helpful advice. Some users suggested proactively contacting support to prevent a ban.
Others, however, took the opportunity to make fun of the situation with as many questionable alternatives as possible:
- AVE Pat Pitt: “Just go to the supermarket, thank me later.”
- RumoraTV: “The good old Knuddels. Anonymously, creepy, result-oriented.”
- Even the official account of Xbox DACH chimed in: “Just start online Xbox Romance, Jasmin”
Some hopefuls even tried their luck and directly offered themselves to the streamer. However, these requests went unanswered – at least in the publicly visible comments.
