Preach is back and apparently eager for World of Warcraft. But didn’t the streamer actually want to quit completely?
In recent years, it has been “in” to distance oneself as a content creator from World of Warcraft. There were many reasons for this, whether it was the disappointing gameplay of Shadowlands or the major scandals surrounding Blizzard. One person who turned away from WoW after many years was Preach. Now he is back – apparently, there is a positive mood regarding Dragonflight.
What happened? A little over a year ago, in July 2021, we reported that Preach and his team were turning away from World of Warcraft. There were many reasons for this, such as the major sexism scandal surrounding Blizzard.
However, Preach’s main argument was that he felt that WoW just wasn’t putting in any effort anymore. At that time, he was extremely unhappy with systems like the domination shard system, as they simply weren’t well balanced. He predicted back then that he probably wouldn’t play WoW in the next 6 months – and that’s how it turned out.
At that time, Preach was particularly known for extensive guides and large discussions on the most important topics in World of Warcraft.
After a detour into the realms of Final Fantasy XIV, which many WoW fans did at the time, he seems to have changed his mind again.
What has happened now? Preach recently posted a short video on Twitter showing him in an unusual location – namely in Irvine, California at the Blizzard campus. There he sits in front of the famous orc statue and explains: “Sorry guys, there won’t be a stream today. I still have a few things to do and I’ll be back no earlier than Monday.”
Apparently, he doesn’t take himself too seriously. It seems there is no bad blood between Blizzard and Preach, as Ion Hazzikostas, the current Game Director of World of Warcraft, is sitting next to him on the statue.
Preach offers Hazzikostas a chip, before Hazzikostas asks a bit confused: “Didn’t you quit?” Apparently hit by the remark, he explains, “I never said that …,” before the camera swings back to the orc and the video then ends.
What caused the change of heart? This is probably fundamentally due to what players have seen so far from Dragonflight. Because Blizzard has seemingly taken many of the biggest criticisms of Shadowlands to heart and created an expansion with Dragonflight that aims to fulfill numerous player wishes.
In addition to the new talent system, dragon riding is well received, and the absence of “borrowed power” systems is seen by many as a good step.
Preach never said that he would leave the game “forever.” He likes WoW and always wanted the game to get better than it was at that time. Apparently, Dragonflight has been doing many things right so far, as the streamer seems to be engaging more with World of Warcraft again.
What is Preach doing at Blizzard? Apparently, he has some appointments with the developers of World of Warcraft and is conducting a series of interviews. In recent days, he has repeatedly posted some pictures showing him with some of the key WoW developers. It can therefore be assumed that Preach will be releasing information in the coming days and sharing more details about his impressions of the latest WoW expansion.
What do you think about it? Cool that Preach is turning back to WoW? Or do you consider it hypocrisy after he announced his departure back then?
