The Minecraft movie with Jack Black is coming to theaters today, but Twitch streamer Papaplatte got to see it in advance – although it seems there wasn’t much excitement about it.
On April 3, 2025, “A Minecraft Movie” will hit German cinemas. The block game has been a constant favorite for years and has helped some German content creators build a career on YouTube and later Twitch. Gronkh, whose Let’s Plays of Minecraft have attracted thousands of viewers, was even supposed to have a voice role in the film. However, fans say his role has been cut (via Reddit).
So it’s no wonder that many German content creators from the Minecraft scene were present at the premiere on March 30.
Minecraft Movie – Boring?
What does Papaplatte have to say about the Minecraft movie? Not much, and this was likely because the streamer didn’t catch much of the film. As he admitted in the stream, he may have fallen asleep for about half an hour during the screening.
And since yawning, as we all know, is highly contagious, it apparently hit his friend, streamer Reeze, who was sitting next to him. The streamer didn’t have much more to say about the film at this point.
How is the film otherwise received? Even though Papaplatte’s reaction isn’t exactly favorable for the movie, the initial reactions are quite positive. You can find out more from the colleagues at GameStar.
Early critics describe the film as entertaining but not very innovative. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a mixed score of 53% (as of 18:00), with the audience’s judgment still pending.
This could mean that the Minecraft movie is a return to the rather poor reputation of video game adaptations, after outstanding adaptations like Arcane and Fallout have done so much for the genre.
