MontanaBlack tested the new “Call of Duty” competitor XDefiant and subsequently shared his first impressions of the shooter.
Which game is it about?
- XDefiant is a free-to-play arena shooter from Ubisoft, set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. An official release date has not yet been announced.
- In XDefiant, you play different factions from Ubisoft games, each bringing different abilities.
- Combat takes place in various PvP modes such as Domination and Payload.
- There is no skill-based matchmaking in casual playlists.

“Doesn’t excite me at all, way too sweaty”
What does he say about XDefiant? In his first rounds of XDefiant, MontanaBlack primarily fought with his controller, the sensitivity settings, and the time-to-kill (ttk) of the new shooter. He personally feels that it’s a bit too high and that he has to hit his opponent with too many bullets before they are defeated.
The streamer had praise for one of the maps he played. He found it excellent and even described it as a “feast for the eyes.”
Less complimentary words were found by the streamer for matchmaking or his opponents: “Even though there is no skill-based matchmaking, the lobbies are excessively sweaty.”
Even though he believes this is due to the closed beta and that the game should be judged fairly again when the open beta runs, he reiterates how little fun he had in the matches and compares XDefiant to Call of Duty in that regard:
“It’s way too sweaty for me, dude, no desire at all. Doesn’t excite me at all, way too sweaty. […] It feels like a new CoD, with skill-based matchmaking and a ton of people sweating for their mother’s life.”
