The Twitch streamer “Kaceytron” has been banned indefinitely. The reason is a tasteless remark about the Corona virus, which Twitch apparently did not tolerate.
Who is it about? The streamer Kaceytron is known for her streams in the “Just Chatting” category on Twitch. She has made a big name for herself on the live streaming platform, gathering over half a million followers during her time there (503,640 followers).
What happened? Now her channel has been shut down indefinitely. On Twitter, the Twitch streamer writes today, March 18, that her viewers should remain calm.
insensitive remark about the Corona virus leads to the ban
What did she say? Kaceytron was a guest on the Rajj Podcast on March 11. When the topic of “Corona virus” came up, she was asked if she would kiss another person if she herself were infected with the Corona virus.
“Yes. And we would leave the quarantine and try to spread it [the virus] as much as possible. Because the world would be a better place without old and poor people.”
The first reaction among the other streamers was an “Oh my God, Kacey – What the Fuck?”
“Obviously, that was a joke…”
This is what Kaceytron says after the ban: She writes on Twitter that she was banned indefinitely after an insensitive remark she made last week. She does not tolerate hate towards individuals. “I’m just trying to process everything right now. I ask my viewers to remain calm and rational.”
In the justification for the ban, Twitch writes “hateful behavior and the threat of violence against a person or group of people.” As Dexerto reports, this is usually punished with a 30-day ban. But now it is an indefinite ban. So maybe even longer or shorter.
The streamer says: “If you’re wondering, it was about a remark made in the Rajj Show that was uploaded to Livestream Fails [a subreddit]. Obviously, that was a joke, but that doesn’t excuse it. It was tasteless and my mistake.”
What do the viewers say? Opinions on the ban are divided. The big WoW streamer Asmongold writes: “Looks like an obvious joke. I don’t like it when people get banned for jokes.” (via Twitter)
Other streamers like card game pro Reynad (via Twitter) defend the action, as Kaceytron was obviously in her “character” – it was thus an act of performance and not her true personality. She adopts this role during her streams as a streaming personality for entertainment.
“It’s ridiculous to be banned for a joke told in character. Many ban dramas are exaggerated, but this one doesn’t make sense. Shouldn’t DrDisRespect be banned using the same logic if he talks down other streamers? Character comedy shouldn’t be an offense to be banned for.”
He refers to the fact that DrDisRespect also embodies a “character” as a macho in his stream. This role has been exaggerated, which led to his ban and he apologized for it.
Other users find the ban justified. One writes, “I saw the clip and was very offended. I can’t believe you meant that as a joke. Ban 100% deserved.” (via Twitter)
Such bans are always a big event on Twitch
- At the beginning of March, one of the most popular streamers was banned for a sexy steam game
- This body painter was banned for nudity, even though she was extra careful.
