The Twitch streamer Jaryd “summit1g” Lazard decided not to play Cyberpunk 2077 at release because he accurately anticipated that there would still be many bugs in the game. However, he doesn’t gain much from this assessment, as other streamers benefit greatly from the hype surrounding the polarizing game. But the hype was short-lived.
This was summit1g’s assessment of Cyberpunk 2077: The 33-year-old American summit1g is a longtime streamer on Twitch. Together with xQc, he is the hard worker among the top streamers, who stream more frequently and for longer than their colleagues. The streamer was repeatedly asked whether he would also play Cyberpunk 2077.
But summit1g waved it off. He said:
I think I’ll skip it at release and play it another time. From my experience: If you give a game a little time, a few months to release updates, you’ll play a better version later.

summit1g maintained that assessment at release, when Cyberpunk generated so much hype. He said he had seen the game played by shroud and xQc, but he stuck to his decision not to play it.

Who are the winners of Cyberpunk 2077 on Twitch? But summit1g remained an exception with his refusal to play the new game. Because even though Cyberpunk 2077 showed many problems at release, there were some streamers who fully jumped on the Cyberpunk bandwagon and were able to benefit greatly.
The most successful Twitch streamer for Cyberpunk 2077 is shroud. He played for 42 hours, and an average of 60,350 people watched him. Especially at release, he achieved record numbers. In his first stream, he had an average of 95,602 viewers and peaked at 128,407. Thus, he is one of the big winners.
The most successful clip from shroud regarding Cyberpunk 2077 revolves around a special feature in character creation:
A higher peak was reached by the Spanish channel of Rubius. He had 131,633 viewers at release. The Spanish-speaking Twitch isn’t as prominently on our radar in Germany, but it is a huge market for Twitch.
Optimal for his channel, the Twitch veteran CohhCarnage is making use of the release of Cyberpunk 2077. He has already spent 102 hours with the game and maintains an average of 18,963 viewers. The niche streamer is even in the game himself.
It seems there are three types of streamers for Cyberpunk 2077:
- Some streamers who specialize in RPGs, like CohhCarnage or Fextralife, really play a lot of Cyberpunk 2077 – and benefit greatly from it. They are at 100 hours in 14 days
- Mainstream streamers like xQc or Pokimane only check out Cyberpunk 2077 for a relatively short period and fully embraced the release hype – they had about 10 hours in 14 days. The biggest German Twitch streamer MontanaBlack played it for just 2 hours.
- Big shooter-oriented Twitch streamers like shroud (42 hours), LIRIK (41 hours), or DrLupo (36 hours) seem to have found a middle ground and are doing well with it.
Cyberpunk 2077 dominates Twitch, but only for 2 days
How is Cyberpunk 2077 performing overall on Twitch: The game sparked a huge hype at release and reached peak numbers of over one million simultaneous viewers, especially on the first day. The second day was still strong, but then the curve dropped significantly.
Over the weekend, Cyberpunk 2077 only had about 71,000 viewers on average.
It is hard to compare Cyberpunk 2077 with other games:
The similarly large game “Red Dead Redemption 2” had a much lower peak at launch in October 2018 (382,000), but maintained a much higher average level for a longer time before the numbers crashed.
The numbers for Cyberpunk 2077 suggest that the game could only generate significant hype at release, but then quickly cooled off and probably won’t play a major role on Twitch in the future:
