The streamer Asmongold is primarily known from WoW but has actively played and followed several other MMORPGs on Twitch in recent years. Especially in New World he was quite active at release. In a livestream, he logged back in after a long break and was shocked by the low player count. He also explained what New World does well and what it does poorly.
What was the stream about?
- In March, Asmongold tried out the new dungeon from Heart of Madness on the test server with some developers and streamed it. Shortly after, he also showcased New World on his “real” account on Twitch.
- However, upon logging in, Asmongold was shocked that hardly any players were present in the cities on his server. Overall, he expressed disappointment with the low player counts in New World.
- During the stream, he stated that the MMORPG has an incredible amount of potential and he does not want it to die. After all, he has already spent over 900 hours in it.
- Therefore, he explained what the major problems are and how he would fix them instead of Amazon.
New World needs less repetitive gameplay and new hype
What does Asmongold say about the problems of New World? The MMORPG streamer sees the “biggest problem” in the repetitive gameplay. You almost always hit the same mobs, constantly complete the same tasks, and crafting from level 120 to level 175 feels like real work.
They all thought crafting was great when they were level 24. Remember when I made all those videos back then and got so much hate for it? And that was because I was the only person who played the game far enough to recognize what was coming.
Additionally, he criticizes the issues surrounding territory battles. They provide too little incentive to really function as a core element in the endgame. Furthermore, there were too many bugs at launch.
He further criticizes the server problems and the chaos surrounding server transfers.
How would he solve the problems? Above all, the streamer would tackle three things:
- The combat needs to be more dynamic and exciting.
- There should be more and, above all, more varied endgame content.
- The developers should complete their roadmap but refrain from releasing new content for now. Instead, they should hold back everything for a larger expansion to rekindle the interest of former and new players.

“I don’t want this game to die”
Does Asmongold think everything about New World is bad? No. Right at the beginning, the streamer praises the beautiful and aesthetic game world, the music, and the “chill vibe” that the MMORPG emits.
He also likes the basic gathering and crafting system, even though he is annoyed by some details and the excessive grind.
He sees huge potential in the game and emphasizes in the video that he does not want New World to die. After all, he has invested so much time in the MMO for a reason. He really had fun at the beginning, even with the chest runs in large groups.
However, New World is currently not a competitor to Lost Ark and Elden Ring. Both are “fundamentally better games” that New World “still” cannot compare to. Whether that will change in the future remains to be seen.
