The German streamer quiteLola is primarily known for her IRL content on Twitch. She is currently sharing her journey in Thailand with her viewers. However, a serious incident occurred: The streamer was sexually assaulted. But that’s not all, she is facing backlash on Twitter for her account of the incident.

What did the streamer experience? In a stream that is no longer available, quiteLola visited a club on the Thai island of Koh Samui. There, a man approached her. The unknown man reportedly first tried to kiss the streamer without her consent, and when she resisted, he allegedly grabbed her butt and between her legs.
Individual recordings show how upset quiteLola is after the incident. When she tells her viewers what happened immediately after, she is angry and on the verge of tears.
Further recordings, which apparently were made shortly after the assault, show men shouting inappropriate comments at the streamer. Among other things, there is talk of “doing it in public.” QuiteLola then breaks down in tears and says she just wants to go home.

Twitter users show their worst side
What were the reactions like? The streamer received a lot of support from her own viewers. They were upset about the behavior of the other club-goers and gave her tips for places to go for help.
But on Twitter, a completely different side was shown: On February 20, a video of quiteLola’s original emotional account was shared there. The post claims that the streamer turned on her stream quickly after the assault to garner sympathy.
The tweet has already received a million views, and the attached video was viewed by about a quarter of that (as of 22.02.2023, 11:30). Numerous Twitter users criticize the poster for the misleading portrayal, as the stream was already running when the assault occurred.
However, beneath the tweet, there are also shocking and often disgusting comments: The streamer is insulted, being called annoying and a nuisance. Additionally, she is accused of only being interested in attention and money.
Some people write about how funny they find the situation. Some even discuss whether they would engage in sexual acts with the streamer.
No matter how you do it, it’s wrong
Why is this so problematic? The derogatory and sometimes dehumanizing reactions beneath the tweet highlight a problem that many victims of sexual violence face. This is also being discussed on Twitter.
Victims can never seem to do it “right” in the eyes of some people:
If they report their experiences later, they are often accused of being too late and should have said something right away. However, if someone, as in this case, reaches out to the public immediately after an assault, they are also not taken seriously – some people seem to believe that if something really happened, they would have better things to do.
