The Twitch streamer AriaSaki showed how she played the hero shooter Valorant. However, she was harshly insulted by a team member. She posted the clip on Twitter, where users commented on the sexism problem in gaming.
Who is it about? Angela “AriaSaki” Don (28) is a Canadian streamer who is active on Twitch and YouTube. She often plays games like Overwatch 2 or Valorant in her streams. Recently, in the latter, the streamer found herself in a very uncomfortable situation.
What happened in the stream? On February 2, 2023, AriaSaki held a livestream in which she played Valorant. While she was playing, there was an incident. A teammate commented on her gameplay, to which she told him to shut up. Then, she was cruelly insulted by another team member.
His verbal attack lasted a full 20 seconds. He called her a “bitch” and referred to her multiple times as a “dirty girl” and “whore.” The streamer seems quite surprised at the emotional outburst of the other at first.
But AriaSaki remains calm, asking, “Wow! Who hurt you, my boy?” Then the team member starts again with harsh insults and makes a totally inappropriate comment.
Here you can see the clip on Twitch, the scene starts at 4:13:30:
AriaSaki shared a clip of the stream on Twitter and explained: “His friend was annoying in communication and even backseated us. I said ‘Shut up’ and that was the response. To be honest, I was a bit shocked. Not by the words… But by the thought that someone would go that far to verbally harass an angry woman. He will apparently get even more atrocious.”
In another post, the streamer also clarifies that she had a reason to tell him to be quiet: If the communication or backseating had made sense, it would have been something else. But the other had apparently been writing some kind of instructions and commands the whole time, like “Don’t duck! That’s only for pros!”
How does the community react? In the Twitter comments, many users express their anger about the player’s behavior and believe: This is unacceptable. However, some comments dismiss it as a joke by the player and think that AriaSaki overreacted.
Above all, many are sad about the fact that sexist behavior in gaming is not an isolated case, but several women are repeatedly harassed with inappropriate comments. Another streamer shares her own experience with the topic in a clip, and users write comments like:
- HeyYaNITO: “What’s really sad is the fact that there are thousands of women treated this way every day. So many reports go unpunished. I am glad that you have a platform to address the issue, but I still feel bad for those who do not. Who raised these angry woman-hating kids?”
- Jayparth: “People are so small that they hide behind their screens and are proud to say hateful things; they have nothing useful to be proud of. I’m sorry you had to deal with this scum; I hope you are feeling better. Guys, we need to do better.”
- Mike: “I’m so sorry you had to listen to that. It is completely unacceptable for people to just lose their minds like that and insult complete strangers. Such behavior should result in a lifetime ban from the game, but instead, people just get away with it.”
Some also advocate for games to punish such players more severely, perhaps by banning them for life. They condemn the inappropriate behavior and show sympathy for the streamer.
