Asmongold has looked at the current player numbers for Cyberpunk 2077 and Starfield on Steam in a livestream. It becomes clear that Bethesda’s role-playing game is unable to keep up just a few weeks after release. However, the Twitch streamer also has a positive outlook for the game.
What exactly does Asmongold say? In the video, he compares the player numbers of the two role-playing games on SteamDB. While Starfield just barely makes it into the top 10 with a peak of 116,774 players, Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in 5th place – with 249,762 players at peak.
The reason for this is the strong patch 2.0 from the previous week and the new expansion Phantom Liberty, which launched yesterday.
That is impressive, and Asmongold also acknowledges the success in his video. He remarks about the two games:
Yes, that’s a lot of people playing the game. At the moment, Starfield is even one of the most played games on Steam. However, it is obvious that Cyberpunk is overshadowing the game. And let’s be honest, Cyberpunk has definitely taken the wind out of Starfield’s sails, right?
He has now announced that he will again be playing Cyberpunk in the near future to try out the new content. Recently, Asmongold has been more into Just Chatting, but he has streamed about 42 hours of Starfield since its release.
“Players will enjoy Starfield for years”
Does the streamer have anything positive to say about Starfield? Yes, because he believes that Starfield will be played ongoing by fans for years, just as it was with Skyrim.
However, Cyberpunk is considered an exciting and in-depth role-playing game, but apparently the streamer does not believe it can remain relevant for years.
This can also be somewhat supported by the numbers. Cyberpunk was at one point below 13,000 players at peak on Steam. In comparison, Skyrim has maintained a constant player base of around 35,000 players on Steam even 12 years after its release, which has even slightly increased recently.
Is he alone in this opinion? Not really. We recently reported that on Reddit many players see Cyberpunk 2077 ahead in a comparison of the two role-playing games. However, some users also pointed out that Cyberpunk took about three years to reach its good status today. Starfield still has time to make significant ground in the future.
However, at the top of the list of role-playing games on Steam is Baldur’s Gate 3, with over 250,000 players at peak.
