A quirky clip from a Twitch stream goes viral. A streamer had too much to drink with his fans and fell asleep live on stream while standing still at a spawn point in a match of Counter-Strike: Global-Offensive.
This is the situation: The Norwegian David “davernmvp” Randem is a small streamer on Twitch. He logs onto the streaming platform from time to time and mainly plays CS:GO. When he plays, he gets an average of 6 viewers. When things go really well, there can be up to 20.
The streamer drinks repeatedly on stream – according to his own statements, together with the people in his chat. They practically tempt him. During a stream a few days ago, he noticeably overdid it. He says he had too many soft drinks with his viewers and therefore fell asleep during a game of CS:GO.
This is the clip: A clip shows how the Norwegian is still in the stream, sleeping off his drunkenness, while the “CS:GO” match is still running on the screen. His character stands motionless, while the streamer himself is slumped back in his chair with his head hanging. All of his teammates are already dead, the clock is ticking down to 45 seconds, and there is still one opponent alive. The situation seems hopeless.
The stream suddenly gets louder as davernmpvp suddenly sits up in his chair like the Undertaker and stares at the screen with a drunkenly concentrated expression. In CS:GO, his game character now starts moving, catches the last opponent, and kills him decisively with pistol shots.
The chat cheers as a broad grin spreads across the streamer’s face.
“Many years of experience, my friends”
This is how the clip is received: The small streamer has achieved great success with the clip. The 16-second clip has already been viewed 193,000 times.
On reddit, people are amused by the clip. Especially how the streamer wakes up from sleep and immediately gets into action earns respect from the viewers. One says: “He wakes up and plays right away. There’s no delay.” He woke up and immediately knew what to do.
The smile at the end also comes across very well with the viewers.
This is what the streamer himself says: He is surprised by all the attention he is getting for the clip. He says: He woke up and saw that his clip had suddenly gone viral. That makes him happy.
Regarding the secret of his success, why he looks so composed even when intoxicated, he simply says: “Many years of experience, my friends.”
Is that allowed? Not really. Twitch prohibits “self-destructive behavior.” Thus, Twitch has permanently banned a streamer who regularly smashed his keyboard over his head out of anger.
Excessive drinking is explicitly forbidden on Twitch. So it could be that there will be a Twitch ban coming. The ban policy is somewhat arbitrary.
In any case, the behavior is not recommended to be emulated – especially for health reasons. Also, the risk of making a fool of oneself while drunk on Twitch is probably high.
Falling asleep on Twitch has made many a streamer famous. One of the most successful clips of all time on Twitch revolves around a sleeping streamer:
