Michael “shroud” Gresziek is the biggest streamer for the MMORPG New World on Twitch. However, the new game from Amazon is facing criticism from fans. They wonder why someone like shroud is still playing a game in December 2021 that is notorious for providing too little content and having too many bugs. The streamer says: He believes in the MMORPG. It will be really good in January 2022, and then good items will be needed.
This is the situation of New World on Twitch:
- New World was designed for Twitch from the beginning. Amazon bought Twitch cheaply years ago, and it is part of their philosophy that an MMORPG like New World should work on Twitch.
- Initially, the plan worked, and New World reached almost 900,000 viewers at peak during its release – but that number quickly dropped. In October, New World had an average of 117,000 viewers online simultaneously; in the last 30 days, that number has fallen to 10,000 viewers.
- But among the remaining New World streamers is the “human aim-bot” shroud, a real Twitch star who is grinding hard in an MMORPG. MMORPG expert Asmongold also regularly streams the MMORPG on a secondary channel.
Shroud says New World will be really good – really good
Why is shroud still playing New World? For many players, the star of New World has quickly faded. The game is accused of having been released unfinished, offering too little content, and carrying too many bugs and issues.
The player counts for New World on Steam have rapidly declined. Therefore, shroud was asked in a Twitch stream why he is still streaming New World, saying it is a mess. The Twitch streamer replied:
“New World is a mess? Dude, it will be good, it will be really good. The next update in January will bring dungeon mutations. You will be able to modify dungeons, just like Mythic+-content in WoW. And the only way you can withstand the damage there is with items like these.”

Shroud then shows some items with special abilities to absorb certain types of damage. Apparently, shroud finds the idea great that the content will be so challenging that it requires specific gear and preparation to withstand it. If you don’t have that gear, you will wipe immediately, he explains.
However, the streamer says he is really looking forward to the new content, but it has to provide good rewards. If it is the same mess that exists now, he would be really annoyed.
This is what it’s about: shroud is a grinder through and through and is clearly fascinated by the loot spiral, as he is currently grinding for items to later create hard content that will then bring even better items.
This is a typical example of a hardcore PvE player in MMORPGs who particularly enjoys content that only a very few can handle because the requirements are so high. This is an “old-school perspective” on MMORPGs. With the same stamina that one uses to tackle such MMORPG grinds, one can apparently also become a leading Twitch streamer.
