I created my account back then on YouTube to comment on graffiti videos. So, I just named myself MontanaBlack88. And back then I liked to use – and still do – the MontanaBlack spray cans. And 88 is my birth year. So, I just named myself MontanaBlack88.

What kind of spray cans are these? MontanaBlack refers to the spray can of the company ‘Montana Cans’, which was founded in 1995 in Heidelberg as ‘L&G Vertriebs GmbH’. After its foundation, the company began to distribute the spray cans from ‘Montana Colors’ from Barcelona in Germany. These were the first spray cans specifically tailored for graffiti artists.
Montana Cans later became an important manufacturer of paint spray cans and other products for graffiti artists.

What’s the deal with the age? This is a rather curious story. Because MontanaBlack’s age, 34, is actually evident from his name “MontanaBlack88”.
But in the meantime, MontanaBlack apparently made a joke out of it and said he was significantly younger: In 2020, he said he was only 25. The ’88’ in his name only stood for ‘the year my parents got married.’
Some of his fans actually believed it and commented angrily when the correct age of MontanaBlack was mentioned somewhere: That’s not true, he’s only 25.
