The well-known Twitch-streamer and YouTuber Charles “MoistCr1TiKaL” White shared with his viewers in a new video how he has invested around 4 million euros in his e-sports team over the past four years without ever making a profit. But he is not thinking about giving up – on the contrary.
What does he have to do with e-sports? Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White founded the e-sports team ‘Moist Esports’ in 2021 together with his YouTube colleague Ludwig Ahgren. With this team, he competed in various popular e-sports titles, including Valorant, Apex Legends, Street Fighter 6, and Rocket League.
On January 17, 2025, Cr1TiKaL took stock and revealed how the team will proceed in the future.
Why is the YouTuber suffering such losses in e-sports? Over the past four years, MoistCr1TiKaL and his team have lost a total of around 4 million euros. In a YouTube-video he openly explains: “E-sports is a black hole that swallows money and gives nothing in return.” He explains that it is generally extremely difficult to be profitable in the industry.
Additionally, the entire e-sports industry is currently in a crisis – rising costs and falling revenues force numerous teams to reevaluate their future.
Why doesn’t he just give up? Instead of withdrawing from e-sports, he talks about why he continues: “It’s not about the money for me. It’s about the love for the game and the community.”
Despite the heavy losses in the last four years, he remains committed. In his video, he emphasizes: “I would do it all over again. In fact, I will continue to do it.” Profit is not his primary concern – instead, he is dedicated to promoting and actively shaping the esports scene.
What does the solution look like now? On January 17, 2025, Charlie announced that his team would fully merge with the Canadian e-sports organization Shopify Rebellion.
He explained that Shopify Rebellion had already provided crucial support during difficult times in the past and significantly contributed to the survival of his team. Due to this good cooperation and shared success, trust between the two parties has grown.
Through the merger, MoistCr1TiKaL hopes to create a more stable foundation for the team and further expand their reach in various games.
While MoistCr1TiKaL invests millions without seeing a cent in profits, there are esports talents being traded for huge sums at a young age. Currently, an 18-year-old League of Legends player is making waves: An 18-year-old is so strong in LoL that the European champion is reportedly offering half the team and a lot of money for him.
