The self-confessed MMORPG nerd Zack, also known as “Asmongold,” enjoys sharing his opinions on Twitch. When a report about an absurd job listing came out, he thought the case was clear, but he had to quickly backtrack.
What was the situation? We at MeinMMO reported on the job listing of a development studio, which is currently causing an uproar. It includes mandatory sauna visits as a condition. The studio head justified this unusual requirement by saying that they are working on a game about saunas and employees must be familiar with the subject.
The Twitch streamer Asmongold sided with the developer but gave up after just a few minutes.
Twitch streamer demands evidence – and gets it
Why did Asmongold defend the developer? The rather media-critical streamer learned about the incident through an article from the website Dexerto, which had been shared in his subreddit. However, Asmongold quickly believed he had found inconsistencies in the article.
The article claims that the studio head “allegedly demanded that employees participate in naked sauna visits.” Asmongold took issue with the word “allegedly,” saying: “What, are we supposed to just believe that?” He wanted to take a “more analytical look at the whole thing.”
He promptly searched for a screenshot of the job listing and discovered: Aha! There is no mention of “naked!” It also does not state that the boss would be present during the sauna visits.
For the Twitch streamer, this was “the best example” of how people on the internet twist things again.
Asmongold gives up: ‘Didn’t think anyone could be such a freak’
Why did he change his mind? Asmongold changed his opinion quite quickly when he found further screenshots of messages between the studio head and a potential employee. The sentence “My narrative girls had to go to the sauna with me to create a fantastic script” broke the streamer.
“Okay, yup. Forget it. I really tried. I really thought it can’t be that someone is such a big freak,” explained the streamer while he clasped his hands over his face.
In the stream, about 4 minutes passed between the start of Asmongold’s “analysis” and the fateful sentence. However, for the re-upload on YouTube, it was even shortened to under 3 minutes. You can watch the excerpt here in the original English version.
The full stream is still available on Asmongold’s Twitch channel, starting at 16:14.
Asmongold is also rarely shy about sharing his opinions otherwise. He was once regarded as a leading MMORPG streamer on Twitch, but reactions now make up a significant part of his content. Asmongold believes that Ubisoft wants to distract from the horrendous price with the new character in Assassin’s Creed.
