The Twitch streamer Emiliano “emiifco” (28) is a passionate football fan. However, when he wanted to celebrate Argentina’s victory in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar, it went horribly wrong.
What a football match it was! emiifco streamed on Twitch as he watched the quarter-final between Argentina and the Netherlands on December 9th. After Argentina took an early lead, the Netherlands equalized in the final minutes, requiring the winner to be determined by a penalty shootout.
emiifco followed the penalty shootout visibly tense and seemed close to tears. Then, the decisive goal was scored by Argentine Lautaro Martínez, bringing Argentina the victory and a place in the semi-finals.
Immediately, the tension lifted from emiifco, and the streamer jumped up in jubilation – but the joy didn’t last long.
Celebration ends with a shattered glass panel
How did the injury occur? In one clip, the incident can be seen: emiifco apparently intends to take a sort of victory lap around his apartment.
Cheering, he runs off but overlooks the glass door that presumably leads to the balcony. The streamer runs straight through the glass, which subsequently shatters. He is injured on the arm, while his dog just barely manages to escape.
A 30-second clip of the disastrous celebration was shared on the subreddit r/LivestreamFail, the largest reddit community for anything related to streaming. The video received 157 comments and over 2,200 upvotes. The clip itself garnered over 170,000 views, despite the streamer having only about 68,000 followers on Twitch.
Once it became clear that emiifco was injured, the stream was quickly ended. Some reddit users inquired about the welfare of the streamer and his dog. Both are said to be doing fine.
emiifco was reportedly not seriously injured. On Instagram, he showed himself with thick bandages on one arm and leg.
The World Cup in Qatar is overshadowed by controversies. YouTuber iShowSpeed was undeterred and traveled to the World Cup to cheer for his idol Cristiano Ronaldo. However, for his behavior on-site, the 17-year-old is now under criticism:
