The Twitch streamer InvaderVie has urged her viewers to subscribe for a fee. She dismisses mundane excuses like “I am unemployed” or “I have no money.” The Twitch clips of her appearance are causing discussions online. Even other streamers like Felix “xQc” Lengyel see this critically.
The streamer InvaderVie has 143,789 followers on Twitch. She primarily streams “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” and “Animal Crossing: New Horizons”, otherwise she is just chatting, so she mainly talks.
This is currently causing a discussion: Some Twitch clips are circulating online in which the streamer InvaderVie asks her viewers to support her financially with a subscription. The main clip has already been viewed over 340,000 times and is being discussed.
InvaderVie is bold and demanding in her word choice and demeanor, instead of being nice and friendly. Ultimately, it comes down to: Everyone has enough money to support her. Anyone who cannot afford the 5 US dollars for a subscription per month should stop watching Twitch and look for work.
It doesn’t matter how much money you earn or how much you have, because I’m not asking you for a larger financial contribution. […] A subscription is 5$, at most, in another currency, maybe 10$. It doesn’t matter how broke you are: If you have time to watch Twitch, you definitely have 10$. If you don’t have 10$, then you should not watch Twitch, but try to earn money.
The Twitch streamer InvaderVie
This makes the discussion even worse: Due to the impacts of the global pandemic, many people have become unemployed in the USA.
A viewer told the streamer that he is now unemployed and all his money goes to bills and food; otherwise, he would support her.
But even that did not count for the streamer. She seems to nod understandingly but then says: It’s only 5$. Surely he can spare that.
When some in the chat complain about the streamer, InvaderVie calls these commentators “immature cheapskates” and mocks them.
They would sit in their childhood room and “masturbate as hard as possible,” but they must be quiet so their parents in the other room don’t hear them.
While portraying the critics so pitifully, InvaderVie adjusts a plush toy and smiles.
“Brain Dead” – “Set Up Like a Camgirl” – “Brazen”
This is how others react: On reddit, it says:
- She is sitting there, looking at a screen and telling others to subscribe. That’s not entertainment. The demand is brazen.
- Others compare the way she streams to that of a “cam girl”, a virtual sex worker.
One of the most successful Twitch streamers is the Canadian Felix “xQc” Lengyel. He said regarding InvaderVie’s appearance that it is “brain dead.”
If no one subscribes, as a streamer you must create a better environment, deliver a better stream, or offer better rewards.
Twitch: Service Provider and Customers
That’s why the clip is causing so much uproar: The entire stream was over 4 hours long, and the 3 clips show only a portion of that. Nevertheless, these isolated comments create a lot of discussion material.
The harsh thing about InvaderVie’s clips is that these harsh messages come across as if the queen bee is speaking to her drones. With a smile and well-articulated, she makes clear demands of her viewers and makes it clear that if they cannot meet them, they should get to work.
Disagreement is confidently dismissed with a shake of the head and a smile. In the process, even the plush toys in the frame cannot overshadow the fact that this is about a business relationship between the customer, the viewer, and the service provider, the streamer. Money plays a decisive role.
This is a behavior that many viewers and other streamers on Twitch criticize: Because it emphasizes the “commercial” aspect of the relationship between streamer and viewer and portrays it drastically.

It can be done differently: Successful streamers on Twitch strive to avoid making this “service provider-customer” relationship so openly apparent, instead fostering more of a community spirit.
The most successful streamer on Twitch is Imane “Pokimane” Anys. She is currently playing a lot of Valorant.
She sees her viewers as “friends to hang out with” – but there are clear boundaries.
Pokimane once explained the difficulty of simultaneously seeking closeness to the community while also keeping a distance so that followers do not get false hopes and think they have a claim to the streamer.
Update April 23: This is how it went on: After the Twitch clip in which she demanded subscriptions received over 500,000 views, InvaderVie spoke again on Twitch and addressed her statements.
She now seems remorseful and says these statements do not reflect what she truly thinks.
