The release date of the MMORPG New World by Amazon Games has been postponed again. It is set to be released on September 28, 2021. While this initially sounds like bad news, it could turn out to be an opportunity to improve the game further. One major issue with New World that isn’t so easy to resolve is the lack of variety in enemies, says Twitch streamer and MMORPG expert Asmongold.
What is the problem with the enemies? Although New World features several families of foes and wild animals designed to challenge players, they are often described as rather unimaginatively designed in the open world, according to the currently biggest Twitch streamer “Asmongold”. He argues that it is not necessarily about the enemies looking the same, but rather that they display almost no differing behaviors overall.
As an example, he points out that alligators at a higher level have the same combat behavior as alligators that players encounter very early in the game, which is simply unacceptable for a game of such caliber.
Overall, the lack of mob variety is one of several issues that cause Asmongold to view the current state of New World critically.

The variety of enemies “is abysmally” low
This is what Asmongold says: This is not the first time Asmongold has criticized the game and the development studio behind New World. Recently, he even publicly labeled the work of Amazon Games as “trash,” although he actually finds the game quite good. The criticism regarding the enemies he expressed in a conversation with Dexerto is new but similarly harsh:
The variety of enemies is abysmal, and their [Note: Amazon’s] solution is to simply change the appearance of certain enemies to make them look different. Great, but it’s still the same NPC doing the same things.

I cannot emphasize enough how utterly embarrassing it is that there are so few NPCs and so few different types of enemies. In a game developed by a company worth over a trillion dollars, it is just pathetic.
This issue may also be related to the fact that New World might have had too little development time. Originally, New World was intended to be a PvP game, where mob variety is not as critical as in a PvE game.
In the further conversation, Asmongold expresses optimism that some things could still change. “I have faith in the game, simply because I have complained about things and the developers have improved them. They listen to feedback.”
It is worth noting that I also noticed during the beta test that many enemies behaved similarly at the start of the game, making them relatively easy to combat. What do you think? Do you find the criticism to be incorrect or have you had similar experiences as the streamer? We would love for you to share your experiences with us and other readers.
Due to the postponed release date New World and the MMORPG Elyon are set to release within 24 hours. MyMMO editor Mark Sellner explains why this is bad for everyone.
