The whole truth about WoW: The War Within – at least that’s what a video promises that Twitch streamer Asmongold has dealt with.
At BlizzCon 2023, the developers of World of Warcraft announced three new expansions and also showed the first major cinematic for ‘The War Within’. While the general mood in the WoW community is good, there are also critics and doubters who view the whole thing skeptically. Among them is Asmongold, who fundamentally does not trust Blizzard and new WoW expansions until he has played them.
In one of his latest videos, he deals with a cinematic that aims to reveal the truth behind The War Within – placing Anduin and Thrall in the roles of active and inactive WoW players.
What kind of video is this? In the video ‘World of TherapyCraft: An HONESTCON Cinematic’, the original cinematic from ‘The War Within’ was taken and filled with new meaning using AI and additional editing. This way, you can experience Anduin, who actually stopped playing WoW, being visited by Thrall to ‘talk about his feelings’.
While Thrall tries to convince Anduin to return to the raid, Anduin lists all the problems that currently exist in World of Warcraft. These include microtransactions or the story, which some feel is going in very questionable directions and seems partly undercooked.
Even though the video is obviously meant to be humorous, there are indeed some grains of truth in it. Because it is indeed true that WoW “sells gold” through the WoW token and harms the integrity of the game. It is also true that the nature of the sales is changing – after all, there was a big discussion about the ‘3-day early access’. And lastly, there is the fact that a single shop mount in WoW has made more money than StarCraft 2.
Asmongold (and his community) seem to agree with a broad grin on most points.
