The presentation of the upcoming ARPG Path of Exile 2 achieved what few can: An innovation even impressed the Twitch streamer Asmongold, who is known for always finding something to complain about.
What is this feature? At ExileCon 2023, the standalone successor to the major Diablo competitor Path of Exile was presented. In particular, the combat system is supposed to become more dynamic and brings some changes. With this, the ARPG wants to be both more beginner-friendly and harder.
One highlight for many players is probably the overhaul of weapon switching. This innovation even drew enthusiastic praise from the otherwise critical Asmongold.
If you don’t have money for Diablo 4, you can settle for Path of Exile 2, as it is free-to-play like its predecessor.
PoE 2 seems to have thought of everything
What impresses Asmongold? As the Twitch streamer watches the presentation of Path of Exile 2 with his viewers, he is impressed by the new weapon switching. Switching weapons was so cumbersome in the predecessor that it was rarely used.
As a result, the weapon switching in Path of Exile 2 is fundamentally overhauled: The player can equip 2 weapons, and both are displayed on the character. Each skill can now be assigned a weapon. When you use a skill, it automatically switches to the corresponding weapon.
Asmongold is pleased about this innovation but also immediately recognizes a significant problem: What about the Passives? But the developer Grinding Gears has considered that too.
The news that you can assign individual passive skill trees to the weapons, which also switch with the weapon change, earns Asmongold raised eyebrows and a nod of approval: “That’s pretty crazy.”

After the Twitch streamer recently expressed criticism of Diablo 4 and already said in Season 1 that he was “done” with the game, Path of Exile 2 could represent a welcome alternative. However, he will have to wait a little longer until the start of the closed beta in June 2024.
If you are in a similar position to Asmongold and have had enough of Diablo 4 for now, while the release of PoE 2 is still far off, MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus has a hot tip for you:
