The influencer and Twitch streamer AnniTheDuck has given an interview on YouTube. It has been sharply criticized: The interviewer has been accused of being too gentle with the controversial streamer. AnniTheDuck is criticized for altering her voice to sound sweet and innocent, even though she herself says she often comes across as disdainful and brusque.
What is the dispute about?
The streamer and cosplayer AnniTheDuck was accused in May 2024 by her former partner Reved and her long-time friend Mowky, that her online personality is completely different from her real personality.
While AnniTheDuck publicly advocates for issues like depression, in real life, she is said to be calculating and emotionally cold.
She was accused of launching a smear campaign against streamer Mowky. Streamer Reved stated that she has suffered from physical ailments due to post-traumatic stress since her relationship with AnniTheDuck.
AnniTheDuck lost all advertising partners in the subsequent shitstorm and fell into financial difficulties. In recent weeks, she seems to be trying to restore her reputation – but that is facing opposition.
AnniTheDuck believes she is often misunderstood and comes across as “mean”
That was her new interview: In a YouTube format of a controversial opinion blogger from August 23rd, AnniTheDuck addressed the allegations again in a 68-minute video.
In many cases, she felt misunderstood and couldn’t quite explain why many have a problem with her.
She explained that she often sounds disdainful without meaning to sound that way. As an example of this “wrong tone” she often hits, she describes recently asking a friend: “Really?” when he told her that passion fruits were his favorite fruits.
From Anni’s perspective, that was just an honest inquiry. However, her friend perceived it as “derogatory.”
She has since done some research and it could be that she lies on the autistic spectrum.
Anni thanks for “surprisingly nice interview”, but this is precisely what is criticized
At the end of the video, she thanked the interviewer for asking hardly any critical questions:
It was surprisingly much nicer to talk with you than I thought. I really thought you were a jerk.
Evidence allegedly exists with the interviewer – but he cannot show it
That was the criticism of the interview: Following the interview, this very friendliness of the interview was criticized.
Additionally, viewers who view AnniTheDuck critically did not appreciate that the interviewer said he had statements and “evidence” that supported Anni’s perspective. However, this evidence was not shown to the viewers. The interviewer later stated that he had signed a confidentiality clause because Anni wanted to protect other individuals.
The YouTuber Sashka criticizes both AnniTheDuck and her interlocutor in her YouTube video from August 25th. She says that AnniTheDuck states in the video that her tone often comes off as derogatory, but in the video, she never strikes that derogatory tone, but rather has complete control over her voice:
She is still going on the line that this voice is put on to supposedly sound sweet for other people.
Sashka then mimics Anni and whines: “No, that’s not true at all… not true at all.”
Sashka criticizes the interviewer for not having asked any critical follow-up questions and for insulting viewers as “stupid” for their criticism.
Moreover, Sashka criticizes opinion bloggers for falling for the manipulation of streamer AnniTheDuck in their attempt to be the first to release a video on the current conflict, only rebutting straw man arguments in her own statement and ignoring many of the valid criticisms. Other opinion bloggers have addressed this criticism and deleted their videos.
