The survival MMO Rust has been running better than ever for some time. This is mainly thanks to projects on Twitch with big streamers on the platform. shroud, one of the biggest streamers on Twitch, now explains why he actually needs nothing but Rust.
Rust is currently experiencing a huge hype due to which more players are playing on Steam than ever before. Among these players are several well-known streamers, such as the shooter god shroud.
He has been playing Rust himself for some time, where he initially fought the rogue xQc as “Sheriff”. Meanwhile, he is increasingly dedicating himself to role-playing on the big streamer server.
In a recent stream, he explained what he actually likes about the survival MMO and why it is currently the perfect game for him. shroud is currently ranked 3rd among streamers on Twitch with the most followers (8,888,230) after Ninja and Tfue (via sullygnome).
Easy start – plenty to do
What makes Rust so good according to shroud: Currently, shroud is simply fascinated by Rust. It seems to have the exactly right combination of content that he likes and that makes him forget all other games:
I wanted to play something else besides Rust. But as I said, Rust is just so easy to play. You go in, walk around, can shoot at things or talk to people…
This does not mean that the entry is easy. Even Rust veterans advise: Get used to dying. But the game mechanics themselves are easy to understand and intuitive.
You start naked and find materials around you. With them, you can craft your first items and then become stronger – almost self-explanatory. You should just pay attention to avoid certain mistakes in Rust.
What does Rust offer? One of the most important reasons for shroud is that Rust offers so much. No matter what you want to do, you can simply do it:
There is so much content in Rust like role-play servers and whatnot. You can do so many different things. Whatever you want. What else could you be playing that brings you the same amount of fun?
The sandbox aspect is an important feature of many modern survival games. The core of these games is that players have to start with nothing and somehow survive. How they do that is up to them. Do they want to rob others? Settle somewhere, build, and be self-sufficient? Or explore the world and sustain themselves along the way with what they find? The best survival games offer all of this, and Rust apparently does it particularly well.
With role-playing, shroud plays on the server of OfflineTV, which was split into an RP and a PvP server. Such servers are more common in Rust, where players prefer to dedicate themselves to role-playing and experiencing stories rather than shooting each other.
Rust remains good: “What else can you play?”
Does Rust not get boring? One of his viewers asked shroud if he gets bored with Rust. But he still enjoys it, and watching can be exciting if you watch the right people. Besides, there really is nothing else to do for him right now:
What else can you play? That is the thing. If there were games you absolutely want to play, then maybe. Then I would play something else. But what can you play right now?
While major titles like the new expansion Shadowlands for World of Warcraft or Cyberpunk 2077 were released at the end of 2020, they don’t seem to captivate shroud. The fascination with the now seven-year-old Rust is greater, probably also thanks to the new hype surrounding the game.
Rust – the new Twitch hit
An important aspect for the gaming fun in Rust is the fellow players. Rust already had many players before, but since the big server project from OfflineTV interest in the survival MMO has absolutely skyrocketed.
Through the streamers, Rust has gained new visibility despite its age, and many players are now starting fresh, discovering the game and what it has to offer. Meanwhile, even Spanish and German influencers have started a similar project.
At least in Germany, this went wrong, though. Right at the beginning of the first project, there was a sexism debate that overshadowed the event and escalated further. Ultimately, the server was temporarily taken offline.
Now the German Twitch server for Rust has been split into three smaller projects, in which the internet broadcaster Rocketbeans and the gaming organization Bonjwa are participating.
