25-year-old Anissa Baddour, known as AnniTheDuck, is one of the biggest streamers on the German-speaking Twitch. After spending some time commuting between her apartment in Berlin and the Portuguese island of Madeira, she now seems not to want to live in Germany anymore.
What’s going on with her residence? AnniTheDuck and streamer Antonia “Reved” Staab were considered the dream couple of German-speaking Twitch. Reved has been living on the Portuguese island of Madeira since 2019, which has developed into a sort of streamer paradise.
On Madeira, the two streamers had a shared house, but they regularly switched between the island and Berlin, where Anni has an apartment. In December 2022, the couple unexpectedly announced their separation.
For many fans, the question may have arisen whether the 25-year-old would then move back to Germany permanently. In their statement, however, the streamers explained that Anni would also stay in Madeira, but didn’t know what the rest would look like.
In a stream in December, AnniTheDuck explained why she decided on Madeira. The clip has now been shared on her YouTube channel.
The wave of emigration of German streamers was likely started by Simon “Unge” Wiefels, who has been living in Madeira since 2018.
Streamer felt constantly watched
Why does AnniTheDuck stay in Madeira? The streamer gives two reasons. Firstly, she simply finds it beautiful – the weather is great, and it is pleasantly warm all year round. She also enjoys the rural lifestyle, which she feels is all a bit slower.
Then, however, the 25-year-old becomes a bit more serious: On Madeira, one is not recognized on the street. This has become quite exhausting in Germany lately. No matter where she went, there was always someone who recognized her, said the streamer.
I have also always felt like… I have felt so intensely watched. I don’t know if you can understand that, but I just always felt watched.
Especially with seemingly harmless actions that one doesn’t necessarily want to be seen doing, she always wondered if there was someone around who might recognize her. That caused her a lot of stress.
Currently, AnniTheDuck is taking a break from Twitch and social media in general, after receiving a difficult message from her personal environment.
She now streams only rarely and irregularly. However, when she is on air, she usually brings a lot of creativity and positive energy, whether it’s in Dungeons & Dragons or in her cooking streams.
