At the end of the year, Twitch streamer Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris (34) wanted to prove himself once again and faced a game that had driven him to despair months ago. This time, however, he tried to hold back.
What kind of game is this? In his stream on December 29, MontanaBlack played the jump and run game ALTF4. In this game, you control a knight who must overcome a course filled with nasty traps.
Everything in ALTF4 is designed to infuriate players: from the annoying music to the missing save function. If you die and fail to catch any of the flying checkpoints, you have to start all over again.
The title of the game refers to the Windows keyboard shortcut that instantly closes an active application: useful for the “rage quit” popular among hot-tempered players, which is supposed to be triggered by the game.
In August, this nasty game trended for a brief period and drove the biggest German Twitch streamers to despair. Elias “EliasN97” Nerlich called it “evil packaged in a game,” while Maximilian “Trymacs” Stemmler complained about the controls even before he had properly started.
ALTF4 also caused outbursts of anger for MontanaBlack back then. The streamer shouted and hit his gaming chair (via dasding).
Knight game makes MontanaBlack suffer
Why put yourself through this? As MontanaBlack explained, it always bothered him that he could never conquer the game. At the end of 2022, he wanted to give it another shot and faced his old enemy.
How did it go? Pretty much as expected. In his first run, MontanaBlack managed to overcome some of the traps and obstacles. But just the knowledge that he would have to repeat particularly annoying sections in case of a mistake threw him off his game, according to the streamer.
Indeed, MontanaBlack was right: the careless mistakes piled up, and he failed at obstacles he had previously overcome in one go. This then led to considerable frustration again.
However, MontanaBlack refrained from the expected outbursts – out of consideration for his dog. The pug Kylo is like a son to the streamer, and he shares custody of the four-legged friend with his ex-girlfriend.
Everything for the dog
Why did MontanaBlack remain calm? At the time of the stream, Kylo was with MontanaBlack. A good reason for the streamer to hold himself together:
I’m a very emotional person, and I could have lost it and hit something several times. But I really hold back completely because “brother Kylo” is underneath me.
MontanaBlack explains to his viewers that the dog cannot know what is happening. He would get scared and even be afraid of his owner. That is totally unacceptable for the animal lover MontanaBlack.
While the streamer admits that he has had one or two outbursts while Kylo was around, he makes a great effort to stay balanced overall.
After an hour and 15 minutes in the game, MontanaBlack was finally out of patience: he exited the game properly with Alt + F4.
