The streaming platform Twitch went up in flames today around midnight German time. A five-hour Discord call with 4 of the biggest streamers on the platform is circulating online: The streamers xQc and Trainwreck confront members of the OTK group, such as Asmongold and Mizkif, regarding the current scandal involving sexual harassment. The call apparently was never meant to go public.
Who are the involved streamers? We rank the streamers by hours viewed in the last year:
- The streamer “xQc” is number 1 on Twitch, he does gambling – comments and reacts a lot. He is currently popular with young viewers. Since the end of 2019, the former Overwatch pro has been the star on Twitch.
- Trainwreck is number 6 by hours viewed and the second largest English-speaking streamer – He primarily engages in gambling, gambling for millions of US dollars.
- Asmongold is number 10 on Twitch, as he is currently taking a long break. He streams WoW and MMORPGs. In October 2020, he co-founded the group “One True King” (OTK) with fellow streamers.
- Mizkif is number 31 but on the rise. At least he was, until recently. He is a co-founder of OTK.
Those being gossiped about include HasanAbi (political streamer number 8) and Pokimane (variety streamer, number 134, after a long break).
During the major discussions on Twitch a key employee has left the platform. Whether this is directly related to the drama is still unclear.
Top streamers are pressuring Twitch to ban gambling
How did all of this begin? For several months, a dispute regarding “gambling” on Twitch has been circulating. Some of the biggest streamers on Twitch, such as xQc or Trainwreck, stream gambling – while other streamers like Asmongold or Mizkif criticize them for it.
Twitch stated that they are investigating it, but did nothing.
This changed when it recently came to light that the streamer Sliker had lost a lot of money from viewers and friends betting on horse racing. Now, large streamers like Mizkif and Pokimane demanded that Twitch finally take action against gambling, or else they would strike.
Following this, Twitch quickly announced that it would restrict gambling.
Angry casino streamer makes serious allegations against Mizkif: “You’re in a glass house, you p***y”
That was the actual scandal: One of the loudest critics of gambling was Mizkif, a streamer from the OTK group, which also includes Asmongold.
However, the biggest gambling streamer on Twitch, Trainwreck, did not want to take this lying down: He “retaliated” against Mizkif by making serious allegations himself.
The following was at stake:
- A friend of Mizkif, CrazySlick, had sexually harassed a female streamer
- Mizkif downplayed and covered up the incident
- The streamer AdrianahLee then went public and confirmed the allegations against Mizkif and his then-girlfriend Maya (via dotesports)
This not only got Mizkif into serious trouble, but also his group OTK.
The streamer Asmongold had to step in, suspended Mizkif, and stated he would investigate the case.
5-hour Discord call between the feuding streamers
That was the call: Apparently, to address the issues at hand, there was an internal Discord call a few days ago.
We knew this because xQc mentioned in his stream that the call took place and that it was “heated”:
- there were shouting matches
- there was “hard stuff” said
- it was not a PR call, but they really went at each other. Exact details were not known (via youtube)
The goal was likely to clear the “bad blood” and see how they could get out of the situation. xQc stated: It was such a heavy topic that one didn’t want to say anything wrong.
The gambling streamers xQc and Trainwreck were thus in a 5-hour call with OTK members like Asmongold and Mizkif.
This call was supposed to be secret. However, last night the banned streamer Destiny showed the call live and reacted to it.
A feast for drama lovers – 5 hours of “streamer uncut”
Why is Twitch burning now? A lot of dirty laundry is aired in the call. The streamers speak without their usual filter, which they present to comply with Twitch’s rules and the public opinion.
The viewers, especially on Livestream Fails, are listening intently and analyzing every statement from the call. The call revolves, among other things, around how the streamer Mizkif can now escape the shitstorm after he covered for his friend, even though he sexually harassed a streamer while she was asleep.
It is clear that this call should never have come to light.
Mizkif tries to justify himself. He said he was defending his “best friend” and is being schooled by Asmongold for it. This statement is very bad. If he calls CrazySlick his “best friend”, people will immediately assume he wants to defend him.
One can basically listen to how the “lawyer” Asmongold advises the “defendant” Mizkif on how to express himself publicly. While Trainwreck plays the role of the accuser:
In one situation, Trainwreck accuses the streamer Mizkif of trying to extort him. Mizkif allegedly threatened to make allegations against Trainwreck for having touched the Twitch streamer Alinity.
Trainwreck denies this and the discussion becomes heated (via youtube)
But that’s not all. Without being in front of the cameras, the streamers also discuss various topics they otherwise cannot talk about openly. So there are apparently many animosities among the top 30 streamers.
What stands out is that there seem to be some reservations against HasanAbi and Pokimane, especially from Trainwreck and xQc.
Trainwreck calls the streamer Pokimane the “most corrupt figure on Twitch”:
There seem to be issues with the streamer HasanAbi as well. Trainwreck apparently beams when someone attacks the political streamer:
Consequences are still unclear
How is the call being discussed? On “Livestreamfails”, listeners are highly attentive. One user comments, “They are all snakes”: people who smile in front of you and stab you in the back.
Ultimately, none of the participants in the call come out looking good. They all managed to look bad.
Trainwreck is allegedly being accused of being “obsessed with Pokimane”. Pokimane apparently wants nothing to do with all of this:
From the streamer Emiru, a close friend of Mizkif, it is known that CrazySlick has disappeared from the streaming house and “will never return”.
It is expected that the call will now have significant consequences. In the USA, this all happened around midnight, and one can assume that we will hear a lot more about the strange call in the coming days.
The “drama junkies” say they are having a hard time detaching from this feast and getting back to work.
This is the streamer who leaked the Discord call:
