The great gambling streamer Trainwreck announced that he would be moving to a new streaming platform and took aim at Twitch.
Who is it about?
- Tyler “Trainwreck” Niknam (31) is a streamer on Twitch, who became huge with gambling streams and has reportedly earned $360 million from a deal.
- In 2022, Trainwreck lost almost a quarter of his average viewers after Twitch severely restricted casino streams in October.
- In November, Trainwreck then tried sports betting, proved to have a golden touch, and won 1.5 million euros with soccer tips.
- Trainwreck claims to have a good understanding of Twitch and its fundamentals, as he has been one of the top 5 Twitch creators in the world for 16.5 months and is currently among the top 10 Twitch creators in the world.
Another major streamer who no longer streams on Twitch is Dr Disrespect:
Which Twitch competitor is it about? The new competitor for Twitch is the streaming platform Kick.com.
As stated in a TwitLonger by Trainwreck, Kick.com aims to focus more on the needs of creators.
Among the features that will be introduced on the platform in the future is a “95% to 5%” split of subscriber revenue. In addition, “tips”, which are called “Bits” on Twitch and “Kicks” on Kick.com, will go 100% to the streamers.
Furthermore, Trainwreck speaks of an innovative creator program from Kick, where streamers receive a regular income. This income is based on the number of hours watched and the total number of viewers a streamer has.
“Twitch has built its empire on our backs”
What does Trainwreck say about Twitch? Trainwreck accuses Twitch in his Twitlonger of taking a large portion of the streamers’ revenue, despite providing, in his view, a small contribution:
“Twitch does almost no marketing for streamers, no discovery, and offers only limited help in building their business. The streamers are only successful due to the blood, sweat, and time they invest themselves. Twitch merely plays the role of a website host. Given their contribution, it is absurd that they withhold 50% of our revenue.”
He also states that Twitch has “lost touch with reality”. Twitch is said to have built an empire on the backs of the streamers and then forgotten them.
“At some point, Twitch lost touch with reality. In the past, Twitch felt like a place made for us and by us. But Twitch has built its empire on our backs and then forgotten us. They have lost the reason why Twitch became number one in the first place.”
What does Trainwreck aim for with Kick? As can be gleaned from the Twitlonger, Trainwreck wants to help streamers succeed on Kick “where Twitch has let them down”. For this purpose, the 31-year-old joins kick.com as a consultant and non-exclusive broadcaster.
One goal of Trainwreck and Kick.com is to create a streaming platform that is not just for large streamers with paid contracts, but is also aimed at small and medium creators. According to Trainwreck, these are “the foundation and backbone of all live streaming platforms”.
A streaming platform that also tried to dethrone Twitch was Mixer. For this, they even secured the extremely successful streamers shroud and Ninja. However, in 2020, Mixer’s efforts ended, and the platform was shut down.
