Fortnite streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins expresses in a video how disappointed he is with Twitch.TV. They unintentionally promoted porn on his Twitch channel after Ninja’s switch to Mixer.
What about Ninja’s Twitch account? In early August, the star streamer Ninja switched from the platform Twitch.TV to the competitor Mixer.com. His Twitch channel still has over 14 million followers and is visited daily, even though Ninja no longer streams there.
TwitchTV utilized this visitor traffic and revamped Ninja’s channel. They displayed ads for “other popular streams” in the Fortnite category. These are shown with thumbnail on Ninja’s Twitch channel. This is how cleverly Twitch implemented it.
This is what Ninja is now angry about: Ninja released a video on August 11, stating that he is disgusted and apologizes. Because an ad for a stream displaying porn was shown on his Twitch channel.
Ninja says in the video:
“As you know, I am now streaming on Mixer. The team and I made sure that the transition went smoothly, super professionally. We said nothing bad or negative about Twitch.”
Then he continues and explains that he is the only streamer whose old channel is used to promote other streams.
“I have been streaming for 8 years to build my brand and grow my channel. They used my channel to promote others. Now there was a porn account at number 1 displayed on my channel.” Then he apologizes to all viewers, parents, and children who saw it.
This is how it looked on his account:
For two hours, porn was promoted on Ninja’s channel
Why was there porn being shown? The promoted Twitch account displayed porn related to Minecraft and Fortnite for more than two hours, explains Dexerto. Because the promoted streams on Ninja’s channel are sorted by popularity and many people watched the stream, it appeared at number 1.
“This wouldn’t even have been a problem if Twitch hadn’t used my channel to promote other streams,” Ninja writes.
Twitch CEO apologizes to Ninja
How did Twitch react? Meanwhile, the mentioned porn channel has been permanently banned. Twitch CEO Emmett Shear used Twitter to apologize to Ninja. He also explained that promoting other streams on his channel is good for building connections in the community. However, this content should not have been displayed.
Ninja’s channel currently no longer displays ads for other streams. Ninja says this is now what an offline channel should look like.
Ninja’s Mixer channel already has some highlights. The Fortnite player called Epic while streaming to report a cheater.
