The Hardcore servers have been generating rising interest in WoW Classic, also on Twitch. Now, the MMORPG guru Sodapoppin has opened his own guild there and invited the biggest names in streaming. The drama came surprisingly late, but with a bang.
What kind of guild is this?
- OnlyFangs is a guild on the US servers of WoW Classic Hardcore. On these servers, every death is permanent, you lose your character and all items.
- The leader of the guild is the Twitch streamer Sodapoppin, an expert on MMORPGs and WoW in particular and one of the streamers who has been in the business for the longest.
- In his guild, some of the biggest names from Twitch and beyond can be found, including: Pokimane, Mizkif, and – until a few hours ago – xQc.
This is the dispute: Félix “xQc” Lengyel is considered a big jerk on Twitch, even though he has now switched to Kick. In WoW Classic, the streamer has gotten into 4 problems with fellow Dowsky, as the guild leader reports in his own stream (via Twitch).
3 of these problems allegedly happened “offstream” and should probably stay there, it was said. The fourth is now referred to by the guild and fans as the “Murloc Incident”:
- Dowsky farmed Murlocs in a specific area for hours with his mage, apparently for certain items
- xQc, who was also after the items, wanted to try a different tactic: he took friends or viewers with him to claim as many enemies for himself as possible (“tagging”)
- the streamer apparently wanted to prevent a final guild kick, a reasonable plan in itself
- when he encountered Dowsky in the process, he asked him to leave
- Dowsky refused, and xQc, in his anger, left the guild
Sodapoppin shows in his stream a few pictures of xQc messaging him with things like “EMERGENCY” and the request to respond immediately, followed by several calls. However, since the guild leader wanted to spend some time with friends, he simply turned off his phone and only took care of it once he was back at his PC.
“The good thing is: everyone is streaming!”
Sodapoppin explains in his stream that the whole issue has a big advantage. Unlike other guild leaders who often have to rely on “he said” situations, there is clear evidence here.
All parties involved are streamers. He can simply go into the VODs and watch what happened. His conclusion: Dowsky could have perhaps been friendlier, but xQc was definitely the initiator.
He not only got loud and insulted Dowsky, but also his fans had harassed the streamer colleague before xQc finally left the guild. Sodapoppin sees the right itself with Dowsky: he earned the farm spot. One must become the “alpha” to have any chance there. To drive him out for purely “ego reasons” is not okay.
Despite the drama, the leader is satisfied that it took so long for problems to arise. Although he himself has occasionally mocked the deaths of his members, the first really big clash took months to appear.
With fellow guild member Pokimane, there is currently a different fire burning:
