The 26-year-old streamer Jenelle “Indiefoxx” Dagres has been banned from Twitch. However, she has found a way to still earn money through Twitch clips: She sells her “best moments on Twitch” as a type of digital trading card. Some of the “NFT” clips now cost up to €300 on the marketplace.
This is the situation:
- The streamer Indiefoxx is known for controversial streams where she violated the rules for “sexually suggestive content” on Twitch: For example, during the “Earlicking Streams” where she moaned into a microphone. She was banned 6 times in 2021. Her last ban was apparently permanent because after ban number 6 Indiefoxx lost her partner status and thus the ability to earn money on Twitch.
- The streamer is now selling her Twitch clips as “NFTs” through a website.
- Allegedly, all clips were sold within 30 minutes. Prices on the open market now range between €8 and €300.
Twitch Clips as Limited Digital Trading Cards
What exactly is Indiefoxx selling? Indiefoxx has sold some “NFTs” through the site “Eternal.gg”: These are “Non-Fungible Tokens”: A unique, cryptographic token that is non-interchangeable and non-reproducible.
Essentially, an NFT is like a “digital trading card”, an item created and signed by a user. These items can then be traded like limited artworks. Indiefoxx herself compares them to “Pokémon” cards.
A well-known example of “NFTs” are the “CryptoKitties”, virtual cats.
Indiefoxx has offered her “best Twitch moments” for sale on a website. They are all of a “non-erotic” nature and show everyday scenes:
- For $15, there is a clip where she shows a woman a strange “ghetto razor blade” weapon. The clip is considered “ordinary”, with 500 in circulation.
- For $99, one can buy a Twitch clip where Indiefoxx sings “Eleanor Rigby” by the Beatles and accompanies herself on a guitar – the clip is considered “rare”, with 110 copies circulating.
- A clip where she talks to a monk costs between $359 and $5000, with 50 copies available – the clip is considered “mythical”.
Is anyone really buying this? Apparently yes: The streamer claims all her NFTs were sold out within 30 minutes.
Anyone who wants to buy a clip now can purchase it on the market from someone who acquired the clip from her.
Why would someone buy this? The NFTs apparently serve as speculative objects that one buys to resell for a profit.
Some view it very critically as a “bubble” or a “short-term trend” where one can burn a lot of money – for others, it’s a growth market they want to enter.
When Indiefoxx was banned for the sixth time, people were upset: Such a ban has no impact on the streamer. She uses it as free advertising. Now it can be seen that Indiefoxx is still making money with Twitch even after her ban:
