Twitch permanently banned streamer Jidion “JiDion” Adams (21) retroactively. Originally, the well-known YouTuber received a 14-day ban for allegedly organizing a “hate raid” against streamer Pokimane. Now he says his ban was changed to “permanent.” He believes Twitch has succumbed to external pressure.
Why was he banned?
- We reported on MeinMMO on Friday that the community of “JiDion” spammed the words “L Ratio” in Pokimane’s stream. This was a kind of “booing.” This behavior from his community is said to have occurred at the streamer’s request – this is called a “hate raid.”
- JiDion repeatedly showed an old clip of Pokimane on his Twitter channel prior to this incident, in which she used a derogatory term for black people that begins with “N.”
- Many big streamers showed solidarity with Pokimane. They said the attack on the streamer was a clear case of “misogyny.” Women are criticized much more harshly on Twitch than men. When they make a mistake, it is held against them for years.
Streamer says Twitch succumbed to external pressure
This is what JiDion says now: In a video to his fans, the Twitch streamer says his original 14-day ban was converted by Twitch into a “permanent ban.” Twitch apparently caved to the voices calling for his punishment to be harsher.
JiDion finds this ban unfair. He says he accepts his original ban because he violated Twitch’s terms of service, but a permanent ban is unjust. After all, he violated the rules for the first time, and such a “permanent ban” takes away his opportunity to show that he can do better.
He received the ban on the first day he became a partner on Twitch.
JiDion is calling on his fans to rally for his unbanning on Twitch under the hashtag “TwitchfreejiDion.”
Call leads to much criticism of Pokimane and Twitch – Including accusations of racism
This is the result now: Under the hashtag, there are further clips on Twitter showing the old video of Pokimane. Additionally, unflattering photos of Pokimane are being posted, which were part of a previous attack on her. Furthermore, some see JiDion’s ban as a case of racism: A black streamer is harshly punished while a supposedly white streamer (Pokimane) gets away easily even for serious offenses:
- One user says Pokimane is using her privileges as a white person to get a black person thrown off the platform.
- Pokimane only received a 2-day ban, even though she illegally streamed, which is a federal crime. JiDion is now being banned for such a triviality.
- One user says: “Black creators always get the most hate.”
- “They do everything to take down a successful black person.”
That Pokimane was born in Morocco does not seem to play a major role in the discussion.
Pokimane has repeatedly been a victim of attacks in the past. She is the only woman at the top of Twitch and thus holds an exposed position:
