Who is the streamer? TheGrefg is a Spanish-speaking streamer and YouTuber who excels primarily with variety content. He showcases all kinds of games on his livestream and has achieved great success with it. In 2021, he even received his own skin in Fortnite.
He owes his fame in part to the linking of his videos with his content on Twitch, as well as his language offerings. Many gamers worldwide have Spanish as their first or second language, including many residents of South American countries, where Twitch is extremely popular.
The recent, second ban has consequently led to many speculations. The exact reason is unknown. Some of TheGrefg’s fans suspect that the ban is related to a social media post in which the streamer shows his rear.
However, a more plausible theory is that he violated a rule: the “Dr Disrespect” rule.
Strange rule leads to ban – the reason is Dr Disrespect
Why was TheGrefg banned? It is prohibited on Twitch to play live in-stream with people who are banned from the platform. This means: joint streams and even just playing games like Fortnite in a team with banned streamers can result in a ban.
TheGrefg is said to have played with Brunenger, who has been banned from Twitch since March 2021 (via Streamer Bans). Brunenger seems to be permanently excluded from the platform. In a tweet, TheGrefg himself confirms that he played with Brunenger and that this was likely the reason for the ban.
Twitch has drastically tightened its own rules, because after the prominent ban of Dr Disrespect, many people continued to play with him. Since this was apparently not desired, streamers are now being punished for providing banned individuals with any platform.
The rule has previously faced criticism, as it is not always possible to influence who plays in a team in matchmaking games like Fortnite or CoD Warzone. Chance can therefore decide who gets banned and who does not.
When will TheGrefg be unbanned? Depending on how strictly Twitch punishes the “offense,” the length of the ban may vary. However, particularly prominent streamers are usually rarely banned for minor infractions. Therefore, TheGrefg will likely just have to expect a few days of ban time at most.
