The popular MMORPG streamer Asmongold was banned from streaming on Twitch for 24 hours. The reason was a racist remark made by a stranger in the chat of Diablo Immortal. In a YouTube video, the streamer expresses his frustration, stating he finds the ban “disgusting and an insult”.
Who is Asmongold? Asmongold is one of the biggest streamers and YouTubers in the MMORPG space worldwide. With over 3.2 million followers on Twitch and more than 1.4 million subscribers on YouTube, he is one of the most influential personalities in the genre.
He gained fame primarily through his streams of the game World of Warcraft, which he has been actively playing since 2006. However, lately, other games like Final Fantasy 14 and Diablo Immortal have also been on his streaming schedule.
However, Asmongold had to refrain from streaming on Twitch for 24 hours. His second channel “zackrawrr” (via twitch.tv) was banned, which also affected his main channel. He cannot appear as a streamer on the platform for one day. The strict ban rules at Twitch often cause trouble.
Asmongold expresses his disappointment at the ban and even feels offended. Find out here how it happened and what he has to say about it.

Asmongold feels insulted by Twitch
The streamer published a video on YouTube with a statement about the situation. For almost 9 minutes, Asmongold talks about how the whole situation annoys him.
He starts with a joke but then becomes very serious, explaining his disappointments towards Twitch.
I streamed Diablo Immortal. That alone might be a reason for a ban, but Twitch decided to do something even dumber.
He was banned because he showed an unmoderated chat in the stream, where a racist term was visible for seconds.
It was not his chat on Twitch, but rather the chat box in Diablo Immortal. The chat in Diablo Immortal has been noted by many as particularly toxic, even though it only reflects a small part of the players. Asmongold’s own chat even pointed it out to him, but he didn’t want to make a big deal out of it.
That gives the person exactly what they want – attention. But I didn’t want to give the person attention. Unfortunately, Twitch did.
He complains in this case about the interpretation of the story. Twitch seems to think, in his eyes, that he supports such racist statements.
Asmongold explains that he even trains his mod team to detect hidden codes in the chat to prevent discrimination. Twitch emotes that are critical to him due to such ambiguities are blocked from the start.
That he is now banned precisely because of unmoderated chats is something he cannot grasp.
What does that say to the community? Go to the streamer and spam racist terms. Then they get banned. […] Such words become a weapon against streamers. […] In the end, this even leads to more racism.
For him, it is clear that he will block all his in-game chats from now on. He no longer sees Twitch as capable of understanding the context. He even says that Twitch moderation otherwise does a good job – but this is “damn ridiculous”.
Asmongold would even find the reasoning behind the ban acceptable if every other person who does not hide their chat would be treated the same way. He elaborates on a certain double standard that allows outright racist streamers to have a platform on Twitch in some cases.
However, what weighs most heavily on him is the image Twitch seems to have of him as a streamer.
The worst part for me is the implication that I promote racism or homophobia in my stream. […] I am frustrated and annoyed with Twitch.

A controversial topic – what do you think? Was the ban justified? Should Twitch consider more the circumstances, as has partly happened with the hot tub streams, or do you believe that just showing such expressions is enough for a ban.
