The German streamer Kevin “Papaplatte” Teller has had a tough time this year. He has been suspended on Twitch for the seventh time. This time, an old clip is said to be responsible, which was even deleted.
Update November 10: As documented by the website Streamerbans, Papaplatte’s suspension was lifted after 3 days. The feared permanent ban did not occur.
This is what happened: As Papaplatte announced on Twitter, he was banned again on Twitch. The streamer stated that he received a third copyright strike.
These are penalties for violating copyright, such as using music that he did not license. Twitch has been cracking down on this more heavily in recent weeks.
That’s why many streamers started deleting all their old clips and content, including Papaplatte. However, according to him, the strike was for a clip that had already been deleted, which dates back to 2019.
What is the deal with the deleted clips? Some streamers have been playing music in the background of their streams for years without giving it much thought. As early as June 2020, Twitch warned streamers and urged them to delete clips that violate copyright.
In October, the first consequences followed and many streamers complied and deleted their archives. However, as it stands, that is not enough. Old clips can still be penalized.
This is also criticized by the international streamer DevinNash on Twitter. He found that the content remains on Twitch servers even after deletion and can still be accessed.
Support from German streamers and the fear of the permanent ban
What are the reactions to the suspension? Papaplatte is one of the largest German streamers on Twitch and has received significant support, including from his colleagues.
For example, the German streamer MontanaBlack, who was recently banned for 33 days himself, hopes that Papaplatte will be able to stream on Twitch again soon.
However, there is also criticism under the tweet directed at Twitch. Many view the suspension for already deleted content as problematic. Additionally, the duration of the ban is still unknown. Fans fear that he could be permanently banned, after all, this is the seventh ban this year.
How did the other bans come about?
- 5 suspensions for Papaplatte lasted according to Streamerbans only 24 hours. There, Papaplatte reacted to other videos that, in turn, violated Twitch’s guidelines.
- From August 20 to September 19, however, there was a penalty of 30 days. The reason was that he had been banned several times before and in this particular case was using his phone while driving in an IRL stream.
What comes next? Papaplatte already revealed on Twitter that he likely has “good cards” regarding the ban. In addition, the streamer jokingly mentioned that there could also be “Quality Livestreams on YouTube”.

How serious such copyright strikes can be was experienced by the German YouTuber ApoRed in November 2019. His channel was deleted because he apparently showed things in Fortnite that did not sit well with the game developers from Epic Games.
Although ApoRed complained loudly, back then one of the largest German channels about Fortnite was deleted.
