Streamer Amouranth has received her 8th ban on Twitch. She explains the reason, but it seems hardly believable. Fans suspect that the ban could be a deliberate action by the streamer.
This was the ban:
- Amouranth was banned by Twitch on January 27.
- It was a temporary ban that lasted only 1 day.
- Even the 7 previous bans of Amouranth lasted only briefly, usually just a few days.
Amouranth hints: Accidental nudity caused the ban
This is what she says about the ban: Amouranth posted on Twitter: “Man that slip was crazy. My bad.”
There was also an “Oh God, I don’t want to look, but I will anyway” smiley.
That means something like: “Oh, what slipped out was really crazy. My fault.”
With “slip” she refers to having accidentally shown a body part that according to the rules of Twitch should not be visible in the stream. For this, she received a ban.
Such a ban indeed happened to the streamer Alinity in 2020, where a naked breast was accidentally visible for a millisecond while she was dancing and adjusting her clothing.
No one has pictures or videos of this “slip”
What’s the problem? There is no indication that this really happened. In a clear “slip” ban, videos usually circulate within a few hours showing what really happened and what the reason for the ban is.
There is nothing of the sort with Amouranth.
A ban for “unauthorized nudity” from Twitch would typically have resulted, if it was really as serious as Amouranth claims, in a 72-hour penalty, not a 24-hour ban.
There is no indication that anyone knows why Amouranth was really banned.
Her suggestion that nudity was involved fits her image but not the facts at hand.
As Twitch does not publicly disclose why a streamer is banned, it is up to Amouranth to interpret her ban, and she takes advantage of that.
Critics suspect: Ban could have been deliberately provoked
This is the discussion: Amouranth speaks very clearly about her self-presentation on Twitch as a “shameless e-girl.” The 30-year-old has previously said that bans on Twitch benefit her more than harm her, as the bans attract attention and people watch her even more when she is back.
Moreover, bans are like little vacations for streamers.
It is now suspected (via reddit) that Amouranth deliberately caused this Twitch ban to lure viewers to other platforms where Amouranth can monetize them better than on Twitch.
In any case, this could be a risky game for Amouranth, the master of PR-effective Twitch bans. One of her competitors, Indiefoxx, received 6 bans from Twitch in a year while trying to keep up with Amouranth. She was then permanently banned from Twitch:
