Asmongold is considered the largest MMORPG streamer on Twitch, but that doesn’t mean that everyone can relate to his style. In a recent stream, he was confronted with more than 500 reasons why people can’t stand him.
What was the situation? Like many of his colleagues, a certain portion of Asmongold’s streams consists of what are called reactions: He watches content together with his viewers and reacts to it.
In his own subreddit, fans can suggest topics that Asmongold will discuss in the stream. Recently, he came across 2 threads where Reddit and Steam users discussed their dislike for the streamer.
Why might some people dislike him after such statements?
Loud, brash, and aggressive
What were those threads? In the forum for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam, a player asked why people couldn’t stand Asmongold. He himself thinks he’s a great streamer. In nearly 250 comments, Steam users explain what they dislike about Asmongold (as of August 10, 2023).
Independently, a similar topic was discussed in the subreddit Gamingcirclejerk. The thread is about a video in which Asmongold criticized the style in which many games are written today. MeinMMO editor Schuhmann described it as ‘Buffy syndrome’. Another 570 comments discussed what could be criticized about the streamer.
What does Asmongold think? The Twitch streamer believes he knows exactly what some people have against him: He is loud, brash, and aggressive. He is also very confident about what he says, even if others would think he is wrong. That would make them really angry.

Why don’t people really like him?

- Caz: ‘I find him clichéd, contrary, just to be contrary, rather than really sensible and logical, and he’s let his fame go to his head.’
- DLM: ‘He has the IQ of an oyster. And that’s an insult to oysters.’
- Boomer: ‘He is insufferably argumentative. But mainly the way he looks. No thanks.’
- ZetaLordVader: ‘The guy just makes stupid faces and gives superficial and mindless reviews.’
- YOURPALFROG: ‘Asmongold is so bad that he’s almost likable. As if the crumbs in your keyboard developed a consciousness.’
Indeed, Asmongold seems to have been quite accurate in his assessment, although he probably didn’t expect the creativity with which users express their dislike.
However, not everyone has something against the MMORPG streamer. While some are quite neutral and say they don’t mind him, they just aren’t generally interested in content creators, others even appreciate his analyses.
Time and again, it becomes clear that the “role” that Asmongold plays in his streams is not everyone’s cup of tea. Others criticize less the streamer himself but rather his community.
Asmongold takes it easy. In response to the more than 500 comments on the Reddit thread, he reacted with a simple: ‘Okay.’ The users in this subreddit were already unhappy with him during the controversy surrounding Hogwarts Legacy. Now they are once again dissatisfied with him.
