The Twitch streamer Asmongold discusses in a stream a player who has invested $70,000 in the mobile MMORPG Fate/Grand Order and is apparently obsessed with the game.
What is Asmongold talking about?
- A video about 2:41 minutes from the Wall Street Journal is called “Meet the man who invested $70,000 in a mobile game.” (via youtube)
- The video features 31-year-old Daigo, who lives with his parents, trades securities, and plays “Fate/Grand Order” in every free minute of his life. He is only inactive in the game when he is sleeping, driving, or bathing. The report states: Fate/Grand Order is known for turning obsessive fans into gamblers.
- Fate/Grand Order is a gacha game famous for heavily relying on microtransactions. It openly advertises that players can spend real money in the game.
“I know 2 people personally who are even worse”
What does Asmongold say about the man? The well-known Twitch streamer first wonders why the man isn’t playing while taking a bath.
Asmongold then notes that the man apparently drives a nice car, lives orderly, and can take good care of himself. So from Asmongold’s perspective, everything is fine. Living with his parents is also not a shame for him. It is common in many places:
It’s not really a problem if the guy wants to be a loser and spend all his money on a game. Such stuff is only bad when it affects people who ruin the lives of others.
Since the man’s parents do not know how much money he is pouring into the game, the man apparently spends his own money and not his parents’ – so everything is okay.
Anyway, Asmongold seems to have a lot of understanding for the man. He says he personally knows 2 streamers, Lacari and Tecotne, who have invested even more money in the gacha game Fate/Grand Order:
Isn’t that totally ridiculous? I mean, we’re watching an exposé from the Wall Street Journal about a mentally ill 31-year-old person. And I mean, I know 2 people personally who are even worse.
At the end of the video, Asmongold explains: As long as the man spends his own money, everything should be fine. There are much worse things:
I wouldn’t do what the guy does. But I mean – he’s not killing anyone. Thank God he’s not filming himself and making TikTok, where he says: I’m going outside now and shitting on the street. Let’s see if anyone says anything to me.
Asmongold then explains what he finds even more ridiculous. He knows people who go to clubs on weekends and spend $1,000 over the weekend.
And this is done even by people who are not financially able to afford such luxurious weekends – and they do it anyway constantly.
As long as one doesn’t make TikTok and can afford what one is doing, one has the blessing of the biggest MMORPG streamer on Twitch. No mercy does Asmongold have for people who have no money:
