The streamer Emily “ExtraEmily” Zhang (28) was in a difficult situation: She couldn’t stream for two days but couldn’t tell her viewers the real reason why she wouldn’t be on Twitch. So she had to come up with a credible excuse. The problem: She is terrible at lying to people. A clip of the incident has now gone viral on Twitch.
Who is ExtraEmily?
- ExtraEmily is a Twitch streamer with 135,000 followers, averaging 1,280 viewers.
- She has only been on the streaming platform since 2020; her channel saw enormous growth especially in 2022: Her viewer numbers increased by about 900% from 2021 to 2022.
- She showcases speedruns in Nintendo games and travel streams as IRL.

Why did she have to lie? The streamer made a breakthrough: She was able to sign with the streaming organization OTK of Asmongold. There, she will host her own show.
The catch: She had to take off on Sunday and Monday for the signing – on days she usually streams. However, she was not allowed to reveal the reason for her absence, as OTK wanted to plan her commitment as a separate event and announce it as a surprise.
Therefore, the streamer had to find a somewhat credible excuse for her Twitch regular viewers why she wouldn’t be on air on Sunday and Monday.
“… oh yes, and I am sick … and busy!”
What did she tell her chat? This was the problem. The streamer is apparently the worst liar in the world. After a 5-hour stream, she explained to the chat:
- On Sunday she will register her car.
- On Monday she will empty her mailbox – therefore she cannot stream.
- Oh yes, also, she is sick.
While she was saying this, she seemed unsure, embarrassed, and kept her hands out of sight.
When she realized that her reasons were not convincing and doubts started to arise in the chat, she quickly added: Moreover, she was very busy and had to clean her room.
That was the problem: In the chat, people immediately noticed that the excuses sounded ridiculous:
- The car registration is hardly open on Sunday – and it takes a maximum of 2 hours to register a car anyway.
- “Cleaning the room?” – that’s ridiculous as an excuse not to stream. She might as well say she has to wash her hair.
- The first in the chat shouted, looking forward to the “OTK” reveal.
Emily called the chat “silly” and dismissed it, but it was probably clear to her that she couldn’t get away with this.
Which clip then went viral? Two Twitch streamers from her new organization, OTK, watched their excuses together: Mizkif and Esfand laughed about how unsure Emily seems and how bad her excuses are.
Especially the fact that the streamer kept finding new reasons why she couldn’t stream drove the two streamers crazy.
How is the clip received? On reddit, where the clip is discussed, people especially emphasize how absolutely uncomfortable Emily seems to feel while lying to the chat. It seems as if she is standing in front of a court and has to tell a lie for the first time in her life.
“She lies like a child,” says another reddit user.
The clip has nearly 200,000 views. Apparently, you can’t be angry with someone who lies so poorly – they must be a nice person.
