The Berlin-based Elias “EliasN97” Nerlich is ranked 1st in the German Twitch. He has earned it through hard work, as the 25-year-old is often live and pursuing bigger projects. Some fans believe he should take better care of himself.
What’s going on with EliasN97? The Twitch streamer is currently busy, or as he would say, “hustling”. On Sunday, July 2, 2023, he finished a 41-hour stream, his second marathon stream within a few weeks.
From June 20 to 21, he was live for 34 hours without sleep. Even between the two marathon streams, he could be seen on Twitch for between 4 and 9 hours a day (via sullygnome).
The intense streaming might be affecting his health, at least fans are worried about it.
Twitch streamers often come up with challenges to keep their viewers entertained. This could backfire:
Fans fear challenges may become too much
How is the streamer doing? On Twitter, EliasN97 reported on July 4 about digestive issues after his long stream. The streamer actually appears more amused than seriously concerned, and many fans take the post lightly. They joke in the comments.
However, others don’t seem to take it as lightly. They worry that the streamer’s challenges are becoming overwhelming and that he might neglect his health:
- “These challenges are becoming unhealthy. It’s a significant strain on your body to sit for so long and just watch a screen.” (via Twitter)
- “Just have yourself checked out, you’ve completely gone over your limit. […] Take it easy with such challenges for the next few weeks. Pay attention to your health.” (via Twitter)
- “I can somewhat understand keeping the […] hype alive, but perhaps the guy should also just adopt a healthier lifestyle again. Twitch isn’t everything in life…” (via Twitter)
The concerns are not unfounded. Many content creators feel the need to be constantly on-air to increase or maintain their reach until they can no longer keep up. Increasingly, we hear about “streamer burnout”.
Streamer reassures worried fans
How does EliasN97 see it himself? In another post, the streamer explains that he has received many messages urging him to take care of his mental health. While he appreciates his fans’ concern, he assures that he is doing fine.
For him, streaming is not just a hobby but a profession, says EliasN97. The 25-year-old makes no secret that he primarily pursues economic interests on Twitch. He willingly sacrifices sleep and social contacts to have a relaxed future.

In a video clip from the marathon stream on YouTube, the streamer admitted that such long streams do take a toll. Therefore, there won’t be more of such streams in the near future.
After all, his streaming marathons earned EliasN97 the second place among the most-watched streamers worldwide in the past week (via Twitter). However, the German streamer has to concede to the Spaniard Ibai, who achieved 25 million watched hours with this year’s edition of his boxing event.
In fact, content creators outdo each other with increasingly extravagant challenges, which cause concern among some viewers. The “No Food Challenge” by Twitch streamer Trymacs, where participants went a week without consuming calories, even led to a paramedic being called:
