With the update 3.0.0, the architects of Fortnite: Battle Royale had every reason to rejoice: Many improvements have found their way into the game, making building even more efficient. However, there is still a catch!
Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode stands out particularly in terms of building compared to its competitors. With the resources wood, stone, and metal, you can quickly erect large fortresses to protect yourself from your enemies.
However, especially on PS4 and Xbox One, the building mode was considered inconsistent and unreliable for a long time. Incorrect building parts were selected, or a staircase was abruptly interrupted when the currently used resource ran out.
However, with the latest update, Epic has done a lot. Are all players happy now? No – but close!
These changes to the building mode have made Fortnite: Battle Royale better!
Since the last update, the following improvements have made it into the game:
- The turbo mode allows you to place building parts infinitely while holding down the build button – until your resources are depleted. If you are being shot at, you just have to hold down the build button and turn around in circles, so that your makeshift fortress stands. Extremely practical!
- With the automatic material switch, a new resource is now automatically selected as soon as the one you just used runs out. You will no longer be jarringly yanked out of your stair building since the cumbersome material switch is eliminated.
- You are now allowed to place building parts almost anywhere. Before the respective patch, even the tip of a tree was enough to prevent you from building. That’s no longer the case. From now on, you can build almost anywhere, regardless of the surroundings.
The defensive playstyle particularly benefits from these changes. Fortresses for protection are erected faster, players are less affected by the environment, and building is not hindered by the automatic material switch.
This makes it harder for attackers to take out players from ambush without resistance (as long as the attacked player reacts quickly). Specifically, less experienced players benefit greatly from the changes to the building mode.
The turbo mode also allows you to always place a building part under fire – because if a building part is destroyed, it can be rebuilt immediately. You no longer need any specific timing for this.
Is the building mode now perfect? No, one specific feature is still missing!
Epic – let us determine the order of building parts
Especially on consoles, you almost always have to skip a building part when building fortresses. Typically, walls are built, followed by a staircase. However, the floor/ceiling tile is still between these two building parts.
This is cumbersome and unnecessarily complicates the building process. For this reason, many players wish for a custom remapping of the building parts that is tailored to their needs.
As Epic has proven more than once in the past that they listen to the community’s wishes, the likelihood is great that this feature will come sooner or later. Only then will the building mode be perfect – or?
