The next update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has a release date. The new patch is set to be released on Tuesday for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The developers have also confirmed a few contents and fixes that you can expect. The update will be about 15 GB in size.
What’s new? In a blog post, Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward discussed the upcoming changes that you can expect in the shooter. This includes new content as well as bug fixes.
When will the update come? If all goes according to plan, the next update is scheduled for release on April 28. That would be Tuesday. The developers will share the exact patch notes shortly before the rollout starts. The playlist will be changed, along with Camo and Blueprint updates.
What content does the update bring on April 28?
What’s included? In Modern Warfare, you can expect a playlist update that brings “Shoot the Ship” 24/7 (with Cranked and Grind in the mix). Additionally, Gunfight variations will be added.
Additionally, Infinity Ward mentions “Obsidian Camo”, but does not provide images of it. They likely refer to the Master Camo that can be unlocked after earning the gold skin of a weapon. This would then be a new weapon skin that lets your opponents immediately understand what kind of beast you are in Call of Duty.
Moreover, Infinity Ward mentions the mixing of attachments from Blueprints. “Or maybe you want to mix and match blueprint weapon attachments to your heart’s content, even on another blueprint weapon…”, it says in the blog.
This is called “Frankensteining”. You can take parts from Blueprints and combine them with others to create a weapon from the individual components, just like Dr. Frankenstein did with his monster made of different body parts. And from what it sounds like in the blog, this is not limited to specific weapons. It seems that you could experiment with M4A1 Blueprints on the Oden as well. But that is speculation.
How exactly this feature will look in the game is still unclear. You’ll have to wait for the update. You can read the announcement in the Infinity Ward blog post.
A pretty large download is coming to CoD: Modern Warfare
How big is the download? For users on PS4 and Xbox One, a larger “Data Pack” download is due on April 28 that is part of the update. The download is about 15 GB in size and is essential to play Modern Warfare.
The developers explain: “Once you install the patch and select a mode (Multiplayer, Campaign, Special Operations, etc.), you will be directed to an installation menu. Here you must select and download ‘Data Pack 1’ from the menu. Once the download is complete, you will need to fully exit the game and restart it.”

What will be fixed? A few of the issues that the update is supposed to fix have already been shared by Infinity Ward. We’ll show you a part of them here; the others can be found in the blog:
- A bug that caused PC users with Vega64 graphics cards to see broken outlines on weapons and characters is supposed to be fixed.
- The speed and size of the circle in Warzone have been adjusted.
- A bug was fixed where completing the “Completionist Challenges” of the SKS unlocked the camos for the Renetti.
Additionally, the developers also pointed out their changes in dealing with cheaters in Warzone. But is it really good if cheaters play against cheaters?
