“Talahon” is a candidate for the Youth Word of 2024. The term is currently being hotly debated on Twitch. The streamer Trymacs even says he used to be a Talahon himself. MeinMMO reveals what it’s all about.
On TikTok, there are currently lots of videos of young men kickboxing or gesticulating to a certain song – and German Twitch streamers are suddenly confronted with the question of whether they are actually a “Talahon”. We explain what this trend is all about.

Controversial Youth Word “Talahon”
What is a Talahon anyway? “Talahon” is a new term that is currently making the rounds on social networks and has even made it into the preliminary selection for the Youth Word of 2024 at Langenscheidt.
Especially on TikTok, videos of young men standing out with their style of clothing and behavior are circulating.
The videos are typically set to the song “Ta3l Lahon” by rapper Hassan. The title comes from Arabic and means something like “come here.” However, due to the use of the song in their videos, the young men are now being referred to as “Talahon.”
According to Spiegel, a “Talahon” wears branded clothes, from a Gucci cap to a sweater to a fanny pack, and has an aggressive demeanor. In a short video on TikTok, however, the Tagesschau shows why the fashion term should be viewed critically:
- The content of the videos is often sexist, which contributes to normalizing such an attitude.
- The term itself is now being used in right-wing circles and has become a kind of enemy image for some.
Twitch Streamers React to the Trend
The trend has also reached German Twitch, but it is received in very different ways. For example, Trymacs, who is generally viewed as a petty ideal citizen (an “Alman”), had a surprising realization about his own past.
Back then, the streamer reports, he wore Ed Hardy, chilled at the train station, spat on the ground, and his friends also all had a fanny pack. If other teenagers had appeared who were “also looking for trouble,” then “it” just happened. Based purely on a definition based on appearance and behavior, Trymacs sees himself as a former “Talahon.” (via YouTube)
Some streamers like Papaplatte discuss whether the term might be understood as racist. However, the current Twitch star Zarbex is convinced that the designation has nothing to do with origin: there are also “white bread Talahons.”
The Berlin content creator Tanzverbot finds the trend simply “super funny,” and MontanaBlack just doesn’t understand anything at all (via TikTok).
With the modern youth word, 36-year-old MontanaBlack, who is also lovingly referred to as “the retiree,” still has some issues, but thankfully, no one can take away one thing from him: Twitch: MontanaBlack will certainly claim that a candidate for the youth word 2023 was from him
