As one of the largest German Twitch streamers, Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris (35) has spent quite a few hours in various games. Thus, he believes he can judge what makes a “real gamer” – and it apparently has nothing to do with gaming.
Where does the statement come from? In a recent stream, MontanaBlack reacted to a video from his buddy Tim “KuchenTV” Heldt about the streamer Pia “Shurjoka” Scholz, who both have taken a liking to.
While discussing whether Shurjoka really deserves her award as “Gamer of the Year” in May 2023 and engaging in an elaborate tirade on the topic of gendering, MontanaBlack became aware of a clip from the streamer.
The recording seems to be evidence for the 35-year-old: Shurjoka can’t be a real gamer.
What makes real gamers? In the clip, it can be seen that Shurjoka is active on YouTube. The background of the page is light, the so-called “White Mode”.
This screen setting is perceived by some as outdated: With modern OLED displays, power can be saved in dark mode, and the screen doesn’t glare as much when gaming in a dimly lit room or scrolling in bed.
MontanaBlack complains: She has the White mode enabled and calls herself a gamer. His chat points out to the streamer that even the setup of his Twitch colleague Trymacs shines “as bright as the sun” – even though there is a good reason for it with Trymacs.
“Trymacs is also not a gamer to me and you can see that from his gameplay,” explains MontanaBlack. He simply cannot take him seriously – at least regarding that. People who use White mode are simply “sus” to him, says the streamer.
Besides “sus”, one of the final candidates for the Youth Word 2021, MontanaBlack also actively uses another commonly used youth word in his reaction, which many associate with the Twitch streamer:
